'11 JUCO DT Maurice Couch - UT Commit

"I really don't have a leader," Couch said. "I want to wait until all of my visits are done and decide after that."

"I told coach (Turner) Gill that Kansas would be last visit a while back," Couch said. "So the way it is set up they will still be my last visit. I have told coach Gill that I was concerned with some of their games. But I am going to see for myself and they are in the final three. I told coach Gill I am still very interested in Kansas. I want to see how they use their linemen."

"I just want to take my visits and see how the recruiting plays out," he said. "When I make my decision it will come down to playing time, the environment and academics. I also want to see how well I will get along the coaches I will play for."

"It's known as D-Line U," Couch said. "They have had a lot of great defensive lineman that have came through there. Coach Smith and Coach Hinshaw. Playing time is also a big thing."

"Playing time is big," Couch said. "I'm not looking to go somewhere and sit on the bench. Having a good relationship with the coaches. A good support staff with academics. Those are some things that are important to me.

All Vol!!!

If he realized how pathetic our D-Line depth chart was the decision would be that much easier...

Doesn't get much more Vol than that. You could make a case for Pat Martin's Vol-ness, but still... :)

O is like Pigpen from Peanuts... there's a cloud and stench that follows him wherever he goes. Hopefully none of the behind the scenes stuff he did at UT will ever come back to haunt the Vols.

Pigpen -- nice one. Well played.

If playing time is the biggest thing for him then he should have already committed to the Vols and be preparing to start the 2011 season on the line. Has someone not told him that its basically a given for him to start here??!?! Assuming no injury, etc.

He did. Then his dad told him to wait until after his visit to UT. So he decommited and will announce his recommitment after his visit this month.

This one will be sealed up on November 13th...

If he was inclined to commit to us right after seeing USCe beat Bama at USCe then the whole game day experience and and a big win over Ole Miss will put us over the top with him that day...

I wouldn't be surprised to see him commit right after the visit even though he's said 12/1

I was watching Couch's video on Rivals and it's not very well shot...it doesn't point him out before the play starts so at the beginning I wasn't sure which one he was or where he was lined up...

This was a problem at first but eventually the problem ceased to exist....why you might ask?

Because eventually I realilzed that Couch was the player that was in the backfield on every single play....

Man!! This dude's a stud...really hoping he "re"-commits...and I feel really good that he will

"It's known as D-Line U," Couch said. "They have had a lot of great defensive lineman that have came through there. Coach Smith and Coach Hinshaw. Playing time is also a big thing."

The Vols offer lots of playing time for the talented and motivated Couch. He'll make his official announcement on December 1st when he picks either Tennessee or South Carolina. He has certain criteria that he's looking for and both schools offer a lot.

"Playing time is big," Couch said. "I'm not looking to go somewhere and sit on the bench. Having a good relationship with the coaches. A good support staff with academics. Those are some things that are important to me.

"I talk to coach Wilcox and he told me that if I come in and work then I will have a great chance to play a lot. I just have to keep pushing myself."

Couch will see the Vols up close next week when he visits Tennessee officially for the Ole Miss game.

Another positive for the Vols is defensive line coach Chuck Smith. Smith has mentored and trained several big names now playing in the NFL before he came back home to coach at his alma mater and Couch says the chance to get good coaching would be hard to pass up.

"That's a big plus for me," Couch said. "I've watched him on youtube and he's trained a lot of big time players in the league like Osi (Umenyiora) and (Michael) Strahan. I feel like I can learn a lot from him. With more work in the weight room and him coaching me, I think I'd be more dominant."

According to Hubbs, the extra math class is a non-issue with Couch. He has to take it in order to graduate from the JUCO.
