'11 JUCO DT Maurice Couch - UT Commit

"I started talking to my dad and he said I should probably just wait until I take my visit. I haven't visited Tennessee yet so I'm going to wait until I take my visit there," Couch said.

The initial commitment to Tennessee came after struggling with a decision between the two finalists.

"I just been going back between the two and it was down and I thought I should commit and I called coach Hinshaw and told him I was going to Tennessee," Couch added.

"That was my first offer and I was talking to coach Hinshaw and Wilcox everyday and it seemed perfect and I wanted to commit and that was basically it," Couch said.

Said he will make a decision soon after visiting for the Ole Miss game. As long as nothing strange happens :crossfingers: then he should recommit. Hopefully he will stay commited & sign on NSD. This is the biggest get for this recruiting class if the staff can pull it off.

Rather make sure he wants to be here, versus having to deal with someone that don't. Had enough of that really.

Isn't Couch from Kansas too? Yeah...go ahead and take that visit Maurice, please be be EXTRA sure that you want to be here.

Yeah, not saying it's a crap-hole...just wasn't very impressed. Columbia itself is a great little town, lots of fun. The campus just had a sterile, spread out feeling -- no energy or buzz, especially for a football weekend with the Dawgs in town.

Charleston is cooler..but yea.

DANG!!!!!!! Well hell, I'm gonna keep this excitement for Vincent Dallas. When Couch makes up his mind, I'll party down for him too. But this is a bit strange. A commitment out of nowhere, then a de-commitment out of nowhere. HMMMM?????

He would be smith's new best friend. If the dt position could have a solid rotation of quality players, smith would be unleashed and possibly damn near unstoppable.

Hey Maurice.... look what we've put into the NFL. Then look at what USCjr has put into the NFL.

We've got the highest paid DT, QB, and Safety in the NFL.

UT >>>>>>>>>>> USCjr

Just because they won 1 game doesn't mean anything. It's still South Carolina. In 2 years we will be beating them down again.

SO SO TRUE!!

Doesn't matter what he says today or anybody says today. It's a feel good story if someone says they will commit to the Vols, but until Feb. gets here, it's all here say.

I've followed recruiting for a 10+ years now and I can say with absolute certainty this is one of the oddest things I've seen...

I think it's clear he's ours to lose...we just need to be patient now...if he can visit USCe last weekend and not come away commited then I don't think we have much to worry about

Sounds like the kid loves the staff and the tradition but his parents just want him to be sure he feels comfortable at UT before he commits. I have no problem with this. Kid is all Vol baring some major screwup on his visit.

Couch puts us up to 19, back down to 23 tomorrow.

Personally, I didn't get this. I could have sworn Tino's commitment pushed us to 23rd and then after Williams' commitment we didn't move. I didn't pay attention to the point totals before and after, so Williams' commitment might have pushed our points up, but not enough to overtake the 22nd spot. Pretty amazing to think that by November our class will be 3/4 full.

DT for 2011:

Starters, Couch-Hughes

Rotation: Walls, Wright, S. Williams, Carson, Saulsberry, Jeffrey.

I wonder if he called the staff and when they answered he just yelled "PSYCHE!!! into the phone.

Either that or someone from another school blew his phone up when they got word of his commitment. Defensive tackles are in high demand and Tennessee has lost out on most of the good ones lately.

IF we were able to land Couch, Wright, & Johnson in this class then all of those Dooley haters can go screw themselves!!

When we end with Richardson, Clear, Wright, Couch, Johnson, Dallas, and King they can screw themselves again.

That's not even counting, there is going to be one surprise in this class IMO. This staff is so tight lipped on recruiting (see Wasonga). I could see us landing Watkins or someone of his caliber. This class will be top 10-13 and be the most important class UT has possibly ever had to build us back to where we should be.
