Maybe got too caught up in the moment with how big the game against Illinois was last week, because Indiana had been struggling a bit against Iowa’s defense today.

It’s currently 13-10 Hawkeyes with 12:43 left in the game after the Hawkeyes’ kicked drilled through a 54 yard FG to take the lead.

And on 3rd and 12 at the Iowa 46, Indiana’s Mendoza throws an interception that gets returned 38 yards, all the way to the IU 24 with 2:36 left in the game!

Iowa’s completely switched into running mode as they milk clock to kick a field goal.

What a catastrophic mistake

Iowa runs for 5 yards on first down (followed by an IU timeout with 2:35 left)

Iowa then runs for no yards on second down (followed by another IU timeout with 2:08 left).

44 seconds left. Iowa’s completely switched at its own 40 with all 3 timeouts.

For some reason the Hawkeyes are just running no huddle and refusing to use the timeouts. They’ve already burned 40 seconds

Incomplete and that will be game. 20-13 Indiana final.

Hoosiers survive and move to 5-0. They have a bye next weekend and will then go to Oregon the following weekend.

Iowa falls to 3-2 and will have a bye week before playing Wisconsin.

Or well, it would be final, but Iowa still has all 3 timeouts and with 16 seconds left is taking them after every kneeling down….so Indiana is going to have to punt back to them one more time with 3 seconds left in the game.

And on 4th down Indiana’s QB will just make sure that all the time runs off the clock.

Mendoza takes the snap and just runs backwards from midfield until he gets to the endzone and dives down for the safety.

Final score 20-15 Indiana.

…took 50 yards off the teams’ rush total.
