'11 HI DE Juda Parker

Rob Lewis said he thinks its more of Tennesse might encourage Parker to look around, rather than him cooling on us...he also said he is not sure if we are telling him this or not, just that they think it may happen

Is coach X still the coach here?

Tn-girl-n-Hawaii said in the Asiata thread that the coaches have asked Juda to decommit. Let's see how it plays out.

Hubbs has been talking the past few weeks about Parker & he reiterated again tonight in the WR that he thinks Parker will be hard to hold onto, he says because he has never been to campus, never met Dooley or anyone on the staff, & he is 4 time zones away.

Yeah that makes sense to me.

I sure hate it for Juda if the staff did indeed ask him to de-commit. Talk about feeling a sense of betrayal. You ask a kid to commit. Accept his commitment. He feels like he is a part of something. And then you snatch it from him. I hate that, but I guess it is the nature of college football these days.

Juda was apparently looking around anyway. He's never even been to Knoxville or met any of the coaches in person. Hate to say it, because he seems like a good kid and a good player, but he never seemed like a signee.

If true I think this is best for both parties...

Give me Williams and Rasco at DE and call it a day

Indeed -- give me both Williams and Rasco (who is still somewhat of a longshot) and I am ok with how DE has worked out.

Frankly, I was pumped on Juda and felt from what little film we had on him along with what I had read that he had the potential to be a stud for us on the field, and thought that he and Asiata together would be a steal.

I have no idea who cooled on who first, and I guess it does not matter -- it is what it is. But as I said, if we get both Williams and Rasco, I am ok with everything.

In edit: TNgirl.... Any thoughts on all of this??

Isn't everywhere not Hawaii the same to someone out there??? I mean you have to fly anywhere from there.

Big difference!

Oahu to LAX is only one flight.

LAX to Knoxville is at least two more separate flights: LAX to Atlanta, then Atlanta to Knoxville. Three flights & Lord knows how many hours, incl. waiting in airports, is a killer. Try it some time.

I really liked this guy, but as others have said, he probably wouldn't have stuck with us until NSD. A lot of good offers coming from the Pacific shore for him. Best of luck to him though. Hopefully he will never play against us.

I have thought about this "asking Juda to decommit" a bit more and have changed my mind.

I do not think that "he probably would not have stuck with us" is a good enough reason to ask a kid to decommit. Nor is just the fact that we decided we like someone else better a valid reason for asking him to "look around". We are morally obligated to honor our offer, in my opinion, unless there is more to the story than we now know.

We offered the kid and he accepted our offer and committed to us. Both acted in good faith and with full knowledge. I believe that there is more to the story about our asking Juda to decommit than we now know. If not, then as I noted above, I believe we are morally obligated to honor our offer to him and accept his commitment, welcoming him with open arms.

It does suck but at the same time IF the kid was looking around and hadn't even taken a visit to UT yet, I can understand it. If we weren't in a pinch as far as numbers I think we would let in ride until NSD and see what happens. All this is conjecture though maybe TNgirl can tell us exactly what happened? I hope the kid does well wherever he ends up.

How can anyone be 100% committed to a school (& coaching staff) without a visit? Too risky for both the school and the player!

That's the only reason I can see for them to ask him to decommit. At the same time, it isn't like it would be just a short road trip for this kid to visit. Having a late and I mean late game by our time on Friday then trying to make it in on Sat would be hell.

The only reason Parker wouldn't be a Vol in the end is distance. We haven't "pulled" his offer. We may have discussions with him about the distance to make sure he's not here 1 year and wanting to transfer if he's not getting any PT. But other than that he's been offered and we'd take him. However, Williams > Parker.

Williams will likely choose Oregon or UT.

Rob Lewis on VQ said he thinks that closer & further evaluation of Parker played a factor into encouraging him to look elsewhere, they evaluated some Senior tapes of Parker & decided he might not be a good fit. Lewis also mentioned the distance & Parker never being to Knoxville as a factor, he said you dont want Parker to come in for a OV in Jan & then decide Knoxville isnt right for him then be behind on DE recruiting with less than a month left.
