11' GA TE Jay Rome

"Right now it's Georgia and Tennessee, not Georgia and Clemson. I don't know how and why everyone always thought I was going to Clemson," said Rome, an Under Armour All-American. "I know it has to be because my dad [Stan Rome] played there. I am also going to visit Alabama [Jan. 7] and the Tigers. But right now Georgia and Tennessee are my leaders."

Jay Rome down to four, but one is very surprising - ESPN

"I have to say that the Vols have come on really strong," Rome said. "They play their young players if they are talented and ready. Tennessee uses Luke Stocker and tight end is a big part of their offense. Just like Georgia."

Well obviously CDD and CCS are doing something right. Or else we wouldn't be in his top 2. Let's hope they continue whatever it is that they're doing

if its down to ga and tenn, i have to like our chances. im still worried about bama though

I'm telling you guys its UGA. I'm willing to take any sig bets.

The only advantage the Vols have is that he would likely play as a Freshman, but might be on the bench at UGA for 1 or as much as 2 years.

That might cause him to pause for a moment, but he is so very, very close to giving his verbal to UGA.

The only shocker here would be if he did not sign with Georgia. It's not like the wools been pulled over our heads on this one.

The fact that we're in his top 2 is quite an accomplishment. This staff is doing well, and with a few years of building relationships with these freshmen and sophomores, we will have our pick of them.

I have to admit, I REALLY like our chances with him.

Anyone have a kitchen sink? :whistling:

I wonder how this affects things with Cam Clear? Since we are supposedly recruiting him as a TE.

I think we'll still take Cam. We have a shot with Jay, but I'm not making any judgment calls until National Signing Day or until I'm absolutely convinced that Jay will be a Vol. We need at least three tight ends in this class.

He is helping recruit for UGA same way Martin is helping recruit for UT.

I see. I appreciate the info you bring to the board, but I will point out, j moore, that sometimes recruiting for a school doesn't really mean much at the end. Markeith Ambles is proof.

Ambles would be a Vol today if you know who was still here.

Exactly what I was going to say. And I am sure someone will say that we had a coaching change, but IIRC Ambles decommitted and started looking around before Kiffin even sniffed the USC job.
