Who has our current staff coached in college that went on to NFL DT fame?

It's not like it's in the water - that we grow good DTs.

And, Chuck Smith is going to have to show that he is going to be able to do it from a true coaching standpoint.

Of course it matters. Tradition belongs to a program - if you want history, then it matters who wore the T in the past. Some recruits care about this.

But, you're talking about UT having a better track record of getting DTs to the NFL. The guys who did that are gone. The new guys will have to prove they can do it.

Like I said, it isn't like there is DT-juice in the water on the hill that gets you to the NFL.

let's be honest, getting the NFL as DT is a little about coaching, but mostly about talent, size and work. Rarely is it about the staff and the coaching.

Maybe that's just our perspective because we are not used to DTs (or many other positions for that matter) getting really good coaching, and just making it to the league on talent and size? :ermm:

I can generally agree with this. But, if you have the guys that can identify the talent and provide proper motivation to get the most work out of them, they'll have more success than the guys that can't. I would argue that while there is some "luck" or "right time" to it, it isn't random either.

I would also suggest that a coach with a history of producing NFL DTs can (and they do) use it as a recruiting tool. You hear kids saying it was important than their decision all the time (now whether you can believe that is debatable). Having personal success is certainly better than saying "a bunch of guys who used to play here under some other guys went to the NFL."

I was just about to post it, but not the picture. Take the picture off. I doubt some chick wants her face all over Volnation.

This is another charade. Don't blow your load. It'd be very surprising if he isn't AU bound.

Not sure if i'd be disappointed, TBH. This guy seems like a Haynesworth-esque diva.
