If you take a look at our board, elite isn't the term I'd use to describe many of our targets.

Really? I guess you would determine Chris Donald to be an elite prospect, right?

Elite prospects that UT has right now IMO are Smith, Randolph, Johnson, Martin, Kerbyson, Posey, and Loften (will be apart of this class)

I haven't seen tape on Harris so that's the only one I question, but TN has a very good class right now before they finish it up.

Prospects TN are in good shape for that are elite.

1. Richardson
2. Clear
3. Johnson
4. Wright
5. Walls/Jones/King

I'm leaving some out because I'm tired and can't think off the top of my head.

People will look back on this class and call it the best UT class TN has had in a long, long time when they see the results of it. Add that into a really good freshman class of last year and then you see the depth starting to build up beginning next year, where I think if you look at next year's schedule that we win 8 games, and then you see it completely come together in 2011.

Wright came into town? That's phenomenal. He can see that the D line is prime for young talent to play. Early playing time? Everybody is young on our team, so early playing time is an easy sell.

If true, this just signifies that it's an AU-UT battle.

AU probably gets him because his mom loves it there.

Gabe Wright was at the game yesterday. He is a highly regarded DT who has offers from everywhere. If he watched the game, I have to believe it hurt our chances to land him. Hope im wrong, maybe he see's automatic playing time?

I think kids look at more than the results of one game when evaluating where they want to play ball. Gabe wants playing time then he should consider Tennessee. If he wants to ride the pine for 2, 3 years go to Bama.

Sorry you dont like it. Just wondering if you think it hurt our chances or helped, maybe has no effect at all? Glad you wasted your time replying though.

I disagree with just about all of that.

I'm not sure that we have a truly "elite" player in this class yet. I think you use the term too loosely. A.J. Johnson and Brian Randolph have the best chances at being "elite" but I'm not ready to say that yet.

Clear and Richardson would be the only two in TN I would say have a high "probability" as well.

I also think the 8 win season next year would be a slight stretch. I think we're looking at 6-6 this year. I think we improve that to 7-5 next year. We are too thin at DT right now to do anything well defensively. No pass rush from the front 4 means it almost doesn't matter who you have in the secondary. 2011 is too far ahead to judge right now.

How the hell could you possibly know this? After watching yesterday's game was the first thing you thought to yourself, "High character diamonds in the rough are what we need more than anything right now."? As far as prospects like Posey and Smith being elite, your definition is much, much looser than mine.

I see no reason why he wouldnt want to go to Auburn at this point. Give me 1 reason for a neutral decided kid to want to attend TN over Auburn right now.

True, but Auburn has such a great atmposphere right now, I think they will turn in a great recruiting class this year. Kudos on the Chizik hire.

Chizik hire looks like a genius move. I remember when people thought it was a terrible hire - myself included. I hope CDD surprises the naysayers, too

Chizik was a horrible hire. He'll never win anything of significance at AU. He lucked out in getting Rocker, Trooper, and Malzahn. Once they're gone, I have no idea what he'll do. Ted Roof is nowhere near an SEC caliber D-Coordinator and Chizik insists on keeping him on staff. If he ever wins any kind of championship there I'll stop posting here. I'm not too worried though.

Gabe Wright, Mickey Johnson, Redden and the possibility of Cameron Clear eventually playing DT sounds like a pretty nice coup to me. That'd be a really, really solid foundation moving forward to start building back up our DL.

I like it

couldn't agree more. A rotation including even two above the above mention players would go a long way in improving our defensive for the next four years.

Its going to take 3 straight years of finding 2 solid DTs and 2 solid DEs each to get us back to a strong front that can stop the run and rush the passer.

We have two good DEs in J.Smith and C.Miller from last years class, but we have to find something good at DT this year to go along with M. Hughes.
