'11 GA DB Geraldo Orta

He's got potential, hard-hitting safety. I'm pretty sure he was down to UT and Clemson or USCe. So, he had a decent offer list, but I feel like the story was that he was turned down by his first choice. I could be wrong, but I remember a story along those lines.

Any idea what Georgia 1-AAAAA translates to in Tennessee classifications? He did have 80 tackles but I lot's of folks have 80 tackles or more from the safety position.

Georgial 1-AAAAA is the best class in all of Georgia football. They call it the SEC of highschool football. Everygame is a dogfight and the winner of this class is always deep in if not winning the state championship. It has 3 of the 4 major players in 5A football for Georgia. His numbers weren't all that this year because i believe he missed two games. In the second half of Lowndes games they usually have the 2 and 3rd stringers playing the entire 2nd half. Orta will be fine i have watched him for 3 years down here. We definetley wanted the Lowndes door to open to us for future recruits as well. With Orta and Sapp, Dooley and the Gang have their feet in down here and that can only help us. GBO and VFL

+1.

If the games are such dogfights in that region, then why are the starters yanked in the 2nd half?

I think what he's trying to say, is that the schools are so talented and deep that there isn't that much of a drop off from 1st to 2nd string. Even 3rd string are solid contributors.

I've heard that.

Is it true that fans from those high schools chant "1-AAAAAA! 1-AAAAA!" when they play teams from other regions?

Good info. Thanks. I know the eyeball test is most important. Any ideas on what they saw besides the physical play in Orta?

which still begs the question, who were they benching a guy we felt was scholarship worthy for?

From what I understand of the comparisons between the two states the Tennessee 6A State champ would probably get worked over by a mid pack Geeorgia 1-AAAAA.. That might be a kind assesment to..

Brentwood Academy came down to play 6A Prattville Al. 2 years ago and got spanked 26-0...a game that could have been a whole lot worse had coach not pulled back the throttle. It wasnt near as close as the score.

Alabama and Georgia are both on another level from Tennessee but that BA team also lost 4 games to TN teams FWIW.

i played college ball with guys from GA, FL, AL, etc...the biggest difference in those guys and TN players is they tend to come in more college ready because of competition they face everyday in practice. after 2 yrs though in the college program, there isn't a difference other than the difference in the kids natural abilities (which honestly has nothing to do with what state you come from). For some reason TN is still lacking in getting kids in the weight room, and having the quality of coaching overall that the elite states seem to have.

memphis is full of athletes that compare with just about any other top talent city in the country, with the exception of miami, but they have some of the worst high school coaches in memphis that you'll ever see.

This is the most questionable recruit in our class IMO. Had plenty of DB's in hand. (Much BETTER DB's.) The only thing his film showed was he is a good tackler. Speed is a question and he does not have the size to transform into an OLB either. Maybe a special teams tackler?

Not a lot of upside here. At least, the other questionable guys have some potential. Carson is a big DT that may be developed in our strength program, same with Saulsberry. Tino Thomas has good measurables, and the coaches had him in camp. Young is quick as hell. Where is this guy's potential?

He was not even the best senior DB on his team! The reasons I have read on this thread to take him are stretches at best.

Great Kid---I'm glad but doesn't mean he can play SEC ball.
Pipeline into Valdosta area---Just because you get a low rated kid from the area does not mean you will get higher rated kids later. Look at Sapp's high rated teammate this year. Did we get him......NO! Bad reason!

I was shocked we took him especially when we did. I hope he proves productive. I can't understand this one.

This sounds like what a lot of people were saying last year about Sapp, Crump and Probst. They may not be allSEC (yet) but they sure didn't look like wasted scholarship bad players to me.
