rivals has him listed as a 4.24 40 and scout has him at 4.6...this is the biggest discrepancy between the two services i have ever noticed.
anyone have info from elsewhere on which might be more accurate..

in fact rivals says he has breakaway speed and is a homerun threat, while scout says breakaway speed is an area for improvement...LOL

I didn't see anything in the videos that indicates that he needs improvement.
He looks much faster than J Lewis did coming out of HS. Love the run at the 2 min mark. Runs the guy over.

Sorry about the wait on the film....

Marlin is a gamer. When testing he may not blow you away but he has great game speed. His first ten yards are as quick as anybody but he may lack that extra gear on the top end. Two things that aren't talked about much that will be key to how early he sees the field are his skills in the passing game. He runs really good routes and has unbelievably soft hands. He is also very tough and should be good in pass protection. Still has a lot to learn but he will see the field early in his career at Tenn.

Summer test numbers:
40:4.54
shut:4.16
vert: 38

Good numbers but doesn't tell you the whole story about Marlin Lane. We have Freeman and Lane as the two best every down backs in Fl. Tenn got a real treat with this one.

Lane's highlights are very impressive. I will not be worried about his speed, he blew by some defenders. He may not have that elite speed, but he hits his top speed FAST and has good vision. What impressed the most about his video was the effectiveness of his juke move. It was pretty nasty.

If he is healthy by fall, I see him getting a lot of reps at RB...

Also, he has a teammate in the 12 class named Leonard Williams. Check for the Leonard Williams thread. Leonard was a lil under the radar but that has changed recently.

I am not sure if this has been covered in the other 1,500 posts, but if he didn't get injured, where would he rank as a RB?

rivals had him 8th RB until they shuffled rankings last week. dropped to 23.

recalling numbers from memory which is many times shaky :loco:

Wow that's a substantial drop. Do you think he would have qualified as a 5 star talent before the injury? His film looked really good. Arm tackles don't bring him down that's for sure.
