.Despite his success on game days, there is a perception that the athletic quarterback might be a better wide receiver prospect at the college level. I'm not one of those who thinks that. I believe Bridgewater can make the transition from high school quarterback to college QB. I will admit he may be an acquired taste at the position as he does not always show great technique or mechanics and possesses a lean build. He has shown, though, that he is a winner and a competitor, and at the Elite 11 he had his best outing in drill work. He can be an accurate passer and consistently displayed that throughout the event. He looked solid in his footwork and not shockingly did well throwing on the move. He has a long list of offers, including Alabama, Florida, Miami and West Virginia, and when approached afterward he did not shoot down the idea of playing wide receiver, but was very confident in his ability at quarterback. The debate about where Bridgewater will fit best in college will likely continue, but he helped his cause as a quarterback prospect with his performance.
The early impression to me is that our coaches are not leaving a lasting impression on alot of the 2011 recruits. I know it is early but Dooley and Co. better produce on the field because if not, 2011 will be disappointing from a recruiting stand point.
hmy: Dont say that!! Dont you know that if you say anything about Tennessee that isn't good then you are not a Vol fan, in fact it means you hate vol fans and want them dead.
Oh, and as far as Bridgewater goes, he is no priority of this staff's, and if he was I would be concerned about this staff's ability to evaluate needs. We will sign a QB, but it will be a project guy like a Nash Nance honestly. We go for the big one in 2012.
Either one.
So let me get this straight. With Dooley and Company now at the helm, an Elite QB and/or Teddy Bridgewater are not priorities in the 2011 class? Why is that? Is it because they really aren't a "top priority" or is it because it is convenient to say that because in all actuality this staff probably will not land either one in 2011.?. I am just raising the question. Since when do top flight prospects not become a priority year in and year out? Even if they are not in a "need" position. You can say what you want, but as much as I hate Lane Kiffin and his Staff, Tennessee has definitely taken a step backwards with Derek Dooley. From a RECRUITING standpoint. And unfortunately, recruiting is what is going to get UT back to prominence. For you to say that a top flight recruit like Bridgewater and a top flight QB is not a priority is just wrong. They are priorities and they should be priorities year in and year out. Just ask Florida, Alabama, Texas, and um... yes USC. They've been pretty successful over the last 5 years or so. They would know.
Yea, Im one who believes you continue to recruit top flight players at each position no matter who you already have on your roster, thats how quality depth is created.
I think its the wrong strategy to not pursue top flight QBs.
