11 FL OL Marcus Jackson (UT commit)

We will take Jackson if he wants to come here. Simple as that.

Assuming Loften qualifies, I'll go with:

Tiny
Clear
Lanier
Mickey Johnson
Grooms
Gionni

I do think we will oversign by 1 or 2.

Ok.

Here's my wish list:

OL Antonio Richardson
TE Cam Clear
CB Izzy Lanier
DT Gabe Wright
OLB Gionni Paul
DE Jeoffrey Pagan

I just don't have enough faith that Mickey Johnson will qualify. Can we still take him even if it means greyshirting him and letting him go to JUCO? Or is it best just to not take a chance on him? I also think that we could call it a day at running back, because Poole, Neal, Oku, and Williams return next year, and Smith and Young will come in, so I'm not entirely convinced that we'd have any space for any other RBs.

Now, if we have enough space, we could take:

OL Marcus Jackson
DE Giorgio Newberry
TE Jay Rome

In my honest opinion, the remainder of this class needs to be very defense/offensive line-heavy. We still have holes to fill on defense and as I understand, Richardson is a definite take and I do agree with you, Vader, on Jackson; we can make space for him if he wants to switch from "The U." I would love for us to take a talented back like Bellamy, but I just don't know how much space we'll have for him. Personally, I'm fine with Tom and Devrin being the only two backs in this class.

Another weakside defensive end that can rush the passer.

Trust me, if Bellamy wants to be a Vol, we will make room.

If Jackson commits, is one of the other ol asked to decommit? Only if UT is sure they pick up tiny..... I think things are about to get interesting.

1) His name is Devrin.

2) Go away.

Sorry Dev. Didn't mean to make you mad. I think i'll stay though.

He was being sarcastic.

I was being sarcastic to an extent. If Bellamy wants to come and it comes down to either taking a guy like Rome, Pagan, or Jackson, IMO I think DeVrin is the guy we need to tell to hit the road. I think Bellamy can do all the things he can, except he does them better. JMO though. Sorry for having one.

I also don't think it matters though, because I don't think we get Bellamy and we need a returner in the this class and I think DeVrin is the best one we have so far.

If Bellamy wants to commit the staff wont tell Young to hit the road, they will politley "ask" him to greyshirt & IMO Young would. The kid wants to be a Vol & he just wants a chance to prove he can help this team out.

It will be a kick in the gut if we ask Devrin to greyshirt.

But he bleeds orange and if he thinks this is what's best for his team, I bet he'll do it. IMO, he would rather greyshirt and still get to play for this team, he'd rather do that than play 4 years at some other school.

True, but what if it ends up being like that LSU commit who was asked to greyshirt and he refused? He was released from his Letter of Intent and asked to look elsewhere.

I'm not saying that it will end up like that, but what if it does? Everyone loses, correct?

IIRC, the LSU situation was different. The guy arrived at school to enrolled, and then found out he was a grey shirt. It was real dirty business.

He was already at school, living in Baton Rouge when Miles told him he didn't have a scholarship anymore.

Why you should really feel sorry for him though? Now he goes to Kensucky

Oh, I see. They didn't tell him up front that they wanted him to greyshirt? I always thought that they asked him to do so.

If it comes to a numbers crunch, this might be a good compromise. :good!:

Good problem to have IMO.

Not to be a dick but he doesn't exactly have a plethora of other offers.

We won't be asking him to greyshirt imo. Seriously, have some of you guys been watching the games? If nothing else, we should give him a scholarship just to call fair-catches on punt returns without fumbling. Not like we have anyone else capable of doing it.

High School Football and College Football = 2 completely different animals.

Um, yea, I know... Same applies to all those five star recruits too..

That would be correct. It applies to all recruits. The jump mentally and physically is quite large. Some kids adjust better than others. Hopefully, we have a few that can come in a compete rather quickly. We are going to need them.

Sorry if I came across as being magnanimous... Personally, I think regardless of stars, what you just brought up is the 'x' factor that separates average players, from good players. Besides, I've become jaded, seems like UT has more 5 star busts than any other school I can think of. So many had the talent, they just couldn't make that mental transition you talked about.

And in some ways, that transition is easier for someone like Devrin... Most stud recruits have a sense of entitlement (see UF's 2010 class), and are shocked when they face some adversity for the first time. But, lower ranked recruits tend to be hungrier, and willing to put in more work. jmo.

I agree with you and if that works great. I just don't see, even being a Vol fan, how I could sit out a year when I have talent to be playing D1 football somewhere. I just think if we need a spot, Devrin is the guy. That is all I was saying intially. Ill leave the Devrin subject alone on that note.
