11 FL OL Marcus Jackson (UT commit)

Posey is going to be a Guard here. Kerbyson will probably be a Guard too in the end.

I think Richardson will make it in.

Hubbs said that Jackson really liked his visit but in his opinion Tennessee is a long way away from flipping him.

"It went great. Best visit I took," said the Vero Beach, Fla., standout. "Everything was like a big family. Great fan base, great support. There's a chance to start right away because it's a thin o-line (depth-wise).

"I mean, the players, the o-line, I clicked with them right away," said Jackson, who missed a flight after a meeting with UT coach Derek Dooley stretched long. "They're very thin, I could play right away, and 105,000 people, that's a lot of people. (Neyland) Stadium wasn't even full and I couldn't hear my thoughts. I liked that. Great facilities, great funding. I mean, you've got everything you need. Great coaches, great coaching staff. They're trying to put together a couple of (recruiting) classes and take it to the top. That's pretty good.

Loves the chance at early PT.

After taking another look at next year's OL depth chart, Jackson would be our most critical get at this point in terms of filling a need, IMO. (I'm assuming Antonio Richardson will not qualify, and I think he projects as a tackle anyway.)

LG
JerQuari Schofield (6-6, 331, SO)

Kyler Kerbyson (6-5, 290, FR)
Caleb Leonard (6-3, 265 SO) (walk-on)

C
James Stone (6-4, 295, SO)

Darin Gooch (6-3, 305, JR)
Mack Crowder (6-4, 275, FR)
? Cody Pope (6-6, 290, SR)

RG
Zach Fulton (6-5, 315, SO)

Carson Anderson (6-2, 280, JR)
Kevin Revis (6-2, 285, SO)
Travis James (6-3, 335, SO) (walk-on)

That may look OK on paper but of that bunch, only 4 or 5 are SEC-caliber linemen, IMO, with only 3 viable guards. And pretty much every year, you can count on one or two OL starters getting injured and missing some games. That's why I think it's very important that we add Jackson or another quality guard. While Posey could potentially slide inside, we don't exactly have a surplus of OTs, either.

I really hoped we'd add 5 solid OLmen to the roster next year, but that apparently won't be the case.

Fulton should be 325 and Stone 310 by next season. Fulton is an absolute mauler......

I also heard that Pair has the ability to start next year? I hope this is true?

It wouldn't surprise me to see Pair or someone like an Antonio Richardson push Dallas Thomas next year at tackle. Thomas and Shaw have been the two most inconsistent offensive lineman this year in my opinion out of the guys that have been consistently in the starting lineup. (I'm not counting Gooch in that as he's really struggled as well. Just not athletic enough.)

Agree. Jackson fills a big need actually. He could possibly be the first guy in next year at either guard spot and center. There is really no quality depth after Fulton and Schoefield now that Stone is solidly entrenched at Center.

Agreed... there have been several games (South Carolina, for example) when it was obvious that Thomas was trying like crazy, but just couldn't keep up.

I think Dallas Thomas will be a very solid RT for us next year. His struggles this season have been overblown. And moving to RT will help him. James should be good enough to move over to LT next season.

I really don't know anything about evaluating the o-line I just notice when Dallas gets beat he looks like he gives up when it seems like he has a chance to push is man behind the qb and give him a chance to step up... But again I could be wrong thats just what it looks like to me IMO.... And if Pair can get big enough I like his athletic ability at Tackle...

Thomas is first year starter as well. LT is the most difficult position to play as the best pass rusher line up on that side. I think he has shown some improvement during the year. Some of Poole's longest runs have come from his side. I would doubt that Pair is going to take his spot next year at the start of year... Perhaps he would get more PT as the season rolls on.

Yea I understand that he was like a freshman starting out this yea and I do think he will be the starter next year because he could be much improved with all the experience he gets.... I just think Pair will be a solid back up next year and may be one of those that if he gets a chance to play he may work his way into the line up eventually

While I agree that Jackson is a must take, my understanding was that Posey has always been considered an OG by the staff.

Sounds like Marcus really liked his visit. Looks like he's going to really think more about Tennessee.

Just to reaffirm what TheDooley said, I'm hearing the same thing as him. Looks like Jackson really loved his visit & will end up being a Vol if nothing changes.
