'11 FL LB Gionni Paul

I really cant say much, but something happened when Paul was here for his OV that turned the staff away. & it doesnt have to do with size.

I think Jay & HG have pumped Gionni so much in this thread that everyone is expecting too much. If this staff thinks he can play, they'll take him. If they don't, they'll move on. There's nothing to suggest that Auburn or LSU even want him -- or that he has committable offers from them.

It's amazing how this rather small three star LB has almost become Lawrence Taylor in some peoples minds... but maybe they're right.

I think Paul may be more of a fall back guy for some of the teams on his list.

Seems clear this staff wants some more size on defense.

If Wilcox is wanting to run more 4-2-5 then smallish shorter OLBs are not as important as bigger MLBs for the inside run support, Right? It seems that the big long armed safety/linebacker tweeners are what they are trying to load up on. To help defend the against the proliferation of spread no huddle offenses that is going on. Just a thought in trying to figure out the staffs intentions. I also didn't realize that Harris was so big. I just went back and looked at his numbers, for some reason I thought he was around 6 ft 210. But it seems like he is a definate MLB IMO. All this makes sense if they think we are definately gettin Moore and Lanier to go along with Randolph and Martin and Coleman.

I agree. I had to go back and find the article you posted. With him even mentioning TT and Louisville as teams coming on strong may suggest that he has to be looking at other options. The reason may be because he knows UT/LSU/Barn are cooling on him. Just a conjecture.

"Louisville and Texas Tech have been stepping up with a lot of interest," Paul said. "LSU and Auburn are up there. Those four really. Tennessee was a real good visit but they are not quite up there right now. We will see what happens over these next months."

-From Rivals article today.

Donezo.

Do you mean "I know what happened but it's from TOS and I can't share" or "I'm shocked and don't know what to say because I thought he was a lock"?

Well this pisses me off to no end:focus:

Oh well, I am sure the staff will pull someone out of their ass, and make up for it though. It's a shame it did not work out, I liked Paul as a prospect.

Seems like they're in on Dawson more than what's known. I think they've been to see him twice in the past week.

Yeah they are all over Dawson. For whatever stock you put in 'X' he said that he thinks at LB Tennessee is turning down very good prospects because they are going all in with one big name. Dawson is the obvious choice.

I don't buy any of it. You just can't turn down talent like Paul. Linebacker is a position of need. Especially outside linebacker, because we lose LaMarcus and Savion this year. Paul and Lamar Dawson will be great acquisitions, but we stand a better chance with Paul. This is a golden opportunity for Derek Dooley; he won't pass it up.

I gotta disagree Ravenheart. I think something happened on his visit that really turned us off. I don't think a rumor would go around that would hurt a player's reputation if it wasn't true. If something ugly or wrong went on that caused us to look at a different direction, then you don't report that unless it's true.

Plus, now Paul is saying we're not up there anymore. That's not great publicity for us. Something definitely happened here, and I'm not sure what, but I think we can cross him out.

If that is the case, then it will be a golden opportunity that flew out of the window.

It's simple... They ask ... "Can you pass a drug test?"
He stares at the floor for a second. Interview over.

Just one very possible ex..

Why? Are only happy rumors false?

No, but if someone leaks a rumor that says "We passed on Gionni Paul because he couldn't pass a drug test, or because he got drunk and came to the visit" or something of that nature, and it's not true, then someone is a lying scumbag that's going to get in some serious trouble, I mean is that not slander or libel or something? I mean, I would hope that if something negative happened that would impact this kids reputation, that it would have actually happened, and not that we have a jerk among us who would post and assert that something terrible was done by this kid to turn the coaches off to him, when in fact nothing at all happened.

And maybe it would be a golden opportunity Ravenheart, maybe he is a great player, and best of luck to him if the staff doesnt want him, I would have loved to have him, but if it turns out that he did something that was unbecoming behavior, and the staff saw this and disliked it so much that they decided they no longer wanted him, then he probably wouldn't have been on the team much longer anyways.

Until we hear about what he allegedly did (or didn't do), it's hard to say. But nobody comes away and says "Tennessee was a real good visit, but they are not quite up there right now." You just don't say that, especially not when Tennessee led the week before. He's trying to make it look as if he's just not interested anymore, but I KNOW that nothing on campus would ever make a player NOT want to go to UT.

And you never know, he had his whole family here. Perhaps his family made an unreasonable request, or maybe THEY were the ones who turned the coaches off, or turned Gionni off. Nobody knows, except for maybe Jmoore, and it seems he ain't saying.

I, for one, would like to know what he did that made the staff cool on him.

Breaking news. Ready?

"Gionni Paul apparently insulted Rod Wilks by calling him Eric Berry. Rod Wilks was so upset in his pitiful comparison to someone so weak as Eric Berry, that he began to swell up and turn green in pure rage. UT coaches, out of Gionni Paul's best interests, told him that they were no longer interested, for fear that Rod might kill Gionni."

And that is what really happened. Explains it all really.
