Why does FSU recruit so well every year and still basically underachieve on the field every year? They are an even worse version of Georgia.

I definitely think FSU is on the rise with Jimbo in and Bowden out. For example, look at the LB position alone, Christian Jones, Jeff Luc, and definitely in it for Tony Steward. All could comprise the first team all-acc lb core.

Look at for gators here...
he's bringing his mom on the his OV so I like our chances..she already has said some things about FSU education that will help. Also, getting the last visit is huge. Like I said before I never had the feeling Pagan was going to be part of this class.

This kind of rules out a serious run at Johnson too doesn't it?

1. They hadn't recruited that well the past couple years.

2. This is the biggest reason the Head Coach of the team didn't even know the players names for about the last 4 years.

FSU has had 3 straight top 10 classes.

7 of their 9 Rivals rated classes have been top 10.

Their average ranking is 8.8.

I don't know how you can say they don't recruit well. They recruit very, very well and do nothing with it.

Explain to me how he was NOT responsible?

I'm pretty sure that Brian Kelley is a coach, not a mechanical engineer. I'm sure that the possibility of having a video lift get blown over was the last thing on his mind during practice.

It's an engineering failure - dumb to believe it was Kelley's fault - unless there is somewhere on the tower that says do not use "insert random wind speed here". Even then - that falls more on ND administration and less on the coaching staff.

it is CBK's call and his responsibility, the managers/trainers/Videa guys are part of the football staff....

here's a quick word from a responssible head coach...

The head football coach has final say over everything that transpires on the practice field. Everything. That’s why Ohio State’s Jim Tressel moved the Buckeyes’ practice inside on Tuesday when wind gusts made conditions unsafe.

“I don’t know if we’ll be inside or out,” Tressel told Ohio reporters 24 hours before the Notre Dame tragedy. “It looks a little nasty. I worry about our cameramen, their well-being up there 50 feet in the air.”

why would they be?

Because that's actually one of the biggest reasons for the desparity between the recruiting ratings and on-field performance that you are talking about. The fact that many of the kids that contributed to signing day ratings didn't make it into school

Not to mention the ones that washed out. Probably happens everywhere, but just seems like a huge percentage of our 5 and high 4 star guys had problems.

Plus poor coaching as mentioned.

It isn't that big a mystery to most FSU fans.

My theory is that FSU was actually lagging in recruiting for a while. I think Ron Zook changed the dynamic in the state and they never really got on board. Other schools' fans were laughing at the stories of his insane recruiting (texting in the shower or whatever), but now that's the mentality of anyone that recruits successfully now.

I think the FSU staff kept its rankings high by closing a lot of kids that were questionable. Put it this way, if there are three elite receivers in Florida, they're going to get offers from everybody. But if one of them is more of a grades or character or work ethic risk, obviously the UF, Alabama, etc of the world are going to put them as the third priority on their board.

That's not to say they wouldn't take a chance on them in a heartbeat, but they'd put more effort into the talented kid without issues. I think FSU cleaned up on those kids in the tail end of the Bowden years. The low-hanging fruit if you will.

That's the only explanation for me how we had so many "top guys" never get on campus or see meaningful minutes.
