Anthony Chickillo - Yahoo! Sports

If Chickillo did eventually land in Knoxville, then his position coach would be new Vols defensive line coach Chuck Smith. It's a relationship that is slowly building.

"I talked to him for a while (Monday)," Chickillo said. "He has worked with so many pro guys and he tells me all these techniques. I think he can teach you a lot. He has a lot of experience and he was a really good pro. He told me I needed to keep doing what I'm doing in the class room and on the field to get where I want to be."

Chickillo hopes to visit Tennessee this Spring.

Chickillo holds offers from pretty much every major college in the country: UT, USC, Florida, FSU, Miami, Notre Dame, Ohio St., etc.

Anthony's father Tony Chikillo and grandfather Nick Chikillo both played for the University of Miami and in the NFL. But does that mean that the younger Chickillo is destined to play at the U?

"My dad has told me that I can't go to a school just because he and my grandfather went there," Chickillo said. "He said I need to go where I will fulfill my potential. The place that fits me best."

WE seem to be better at spottng the talent than our HC. No disrespect but I bet DD is looking at kids that have 3.0 or better GPAs . This kid has USC written all over our faces.
The Pendulem swings way to far in most coaching changes......... Somebody please tell DD that we are not as low as USC recruiters, and we don't sit on some High Horse lke Notre Dame. We can get this kid !!!

12 sacks and 80 tackles in half of a season!!!!!! That is absolutely incredible no matter how bad the opposition. I want this kid to be a Vol big time.

"I am open right now. My dad said there is no pressure on me to pick Miami. He will support whatever school I pick. Miami is one of my favorites. Right now I am still waiting to see who offers."

“Tennessee is one of my favorite schools,” Chickillo told InsideTennessee.com. “I haven’t got a chance to see the school yet, but I have built a pretty solid relationship with Coach Smith.”

“Coach Smith wants me to come down for a spring practice or the spring game,” Chickillo said. “Coach Smith likes the way I play. He is telling me that he can help me get to the next level.”

“I will definitely take a visit to Tennessee,” Chickillo said. “I can’t wait to get up there and see first hand what Rocky Top is all about. I got the offer from Tennessee about two weeks ago, it was great I was very excited to get it.”

^ I agree 100%. I mean these kids know who he's trained and they know he can get them to the next level. That's music to their ears.

This kid will be a stud on the DL. Add him in the mix with Smith and Miller in the DE rotation.

I really like this kid alot. He looks like he is going to be a stud. His offer list is absolutely insane. I sure hope Chuck Smith can come up big and land this kid. The "experts" are projecting that we need to sign at least 6 DT's in the 2011 signing class. We may sign that many but I just cannot see us signing 6 "Quality" DT's. I am just hoping that this staff can sell these top notch recruits on playing time at the Defensive Tackle position. These is a very unique opportunity at Tennessee right now because we will not be down for much longer. Give Tennessee 2 more top ten recruiting classes and we will be back in the mix.

"I will visit as many schools as I can and will see how it goes from there," he said. "I have no schools set for sure, but think I'll go to the USC camp and some other schools like Ohio State, Notre Dame, Tennessee, Georgia, Georgia Tech, Virginia Tech and LSU."
