To Hart: Does it bother you that Tennessee is not in the SEC Championship game?
Hart: Sure. Everyone would have liked to be there.

Have you have talks with Butch about a Raise and Extension?
Hart: We have already opened those conversations and will continue those conversations.

It's interesting to note that when Butch spoke at the Knoxville QB Club on Monday, he introduced that Dave Hart was in attendance....crickets......Then Butch mentioned "let's give him a round of applause" and the response was less than enthusiastic to say the least.

For the record, Butch got a standing O when he arrived.

Who's the last AD that inspired a Def Comedy Jam reaction?

They're pretty clearly not going to announce anything about Butch's contract today, other than "we're in discussion about it."

Hart expects us to get the call from the SEC telling us which bowl we're in on Sunday, late afternoon or early evening. No shading about which ones are most likely.

I have to run out. You guys keep me posted on the rest of Hart's segment, and then what Butch has to say. I'll update the original post later.

$10 million in the reserve now. Still last place in the SEC in the reserve, but we spent a few years around $2 million.

Hart: "We would not consider field turf" for Neyland.

Hart: "We've built the financial reserve up to where we are now with about $10M. For several years, we were at about $2M. Of course, we're still 14th of 14 in the SEC, so we're still a work in progress."

Thank the lord. Someone who wants to quote fully. Have at it.

Hart: "With Butch's leadership and energy, and ability to recruit, our football program is very healthy. ... You haven't witnessed the change in culture like I have, ... or the leadership of Butch Jones as closely as I have...."

Hart: "Hey, I get in the fetal position too on some Sundays, so I understand. But our university will continue to be rewarded with the progress of this football program."

Hart: "There will be other hurdles, there will be other gut-wrenching losses, but they will be fewer and fewer and fewer as they go along. We've been to the mountaintop, and it's hard getting there," but we're heading that way.

Hart: "It's been a long time, we tend to forget these things, but it's been a long time since we went an entire football season and were competitive all the way through every game."

Very interesting sound bite from Coach Barnes just now: "When you're building up a program, you can't be afraid to lose." == Be willing to take risks. He has probably been reminded of that truism these past few months watching the football team's season play out. Hoping Butch has been reminded of it as well. :good!:

As (if) this statement might relate to Coach Jones's attitude towards the football program: it would likely mean, Jones is not concerned about (lack of) job security, during this rebuild period, with a 8-4 record (as opposed to 9-3 or 10-2). Jones, that I recall, really did little (in first half of season) outside of the conservative play-calling realm, to suspect what you're suggesting -- his "risk taking" was in taking few risks, rather than making calls/and adjustments that his opposing coaches were making left and right to win against him (eg: he spent "4-5 hrs" with Staff, in making a certain call that many, many others disagreed with; he was conservative/not risk-taking, in calling several TO's when FL was line-up to punt). JMO.

Hart: "When you start to play the 'how long it's been' game, you start to see just how much progress we've made" in our football program.

Hart: "A lot of things will happen from now to March. ... I'm very very happy that Holly Warlick is our [women's basketball] coach."

Hart: "We want to keep a presence in Nashville, we want to keep a presence in Memphis, and Butch is taking us in the right direction. We need to own the state. ... So it was important for us to open the season [in Nashville]."
