100% Honesty

Geez, guys, what the hell is wrong with you people? Did you forget to go to the pharmacy and get your Prozac rx filled? I am sure some of you are the same people that had us winning only 1 more game after the Alabama loss.

How can you guys even get up in the morning with your defeated attitude? I just thank god the players dont share this attitude.

Tennessee is not that far from where we all want them to be. The last time I looked, I dont see any major college teams that are undefeated. Tennessee almost won the SEC this year. I know almost doesnt count but if things are this terrible we would have not been there in the first place.

I am extremely excited about many of our young players. The only thing I am worried about is the current years recruiting class which has been damaged by the early and mid season head coaching uncertainty brought about by those calling for Fulmers head. But lets let bygones be bygones and move on. Tennessee is back, as you will see over the next 2 years.

So Jones is fast, great. I am saying if he had not been the one chasing him and someone else had, that person would have run him down as well.

That would be speculation on your part. In any event I was merely pointing out that the fact he WAS run down by Jones does not empirically support your arguement since I don't think there is a back currently in the SEC, and that includes McFadden, that Jones can't run down. You make a point that Foster isn't in the class of some of the other backs we've had through here but it makes no sense to me to be as negative as you have been in this thread about a back that went over 1100 yards at over 5ypc (in the SEC) based on what he did against LSU. LSU gave up one, ONE (1!) hundred yard rushing game to any RB the entire season, that being the best RB in the entire nation in McFadden. It's like calling someone short because they look that way standing next to Shaq.

Look, if you're trying to temper those who seem to think Foster is an all-time UT great RB I get you, but you've let your pendulum swing too far the other way.

No I haven't. He is an average SEC my back, my point all along. No better, no worse. Giving him 20 carries a game will get us another 8-4 or 9-3 season next year. And don't expect that record to win the East next year. People are so happy that Ainge is gone and then will turn around and tell you how awesome Foster is. I don't get that. Foster is an "Ainge" at tailback.

I'm curious then, what your definition of "average SEC back" is. Please list, in order, your rankings of current starting (or primary, since many teams play more than one) SEC RBs.

McFadden and Jones right off the top of my head. I would also take Hester and most likely #32 from LSU over him. I also like Lester from Auburn and Moreno from UGA for sure. He is middle of the pack, hence average.

i don't know what it is about Foster, but AV123...i know what you're saying. one minute, i think, maybe i'm wrong...the next i see him tip toe laterally for 15 yards out of bounds and then say "yep".

he doesn't turn the corner very well, he does pretty good between the tackles, and when he gets in to space, even on the big plays he's had this year, he's not blowing by folks.

i can't knock him too bad, he has been serviceable and durable all year and he's held on to the ball for majority of the season. he just doensn't have the speeed to be considered wtih McFadden, Jones, Moreno etc....and he's not a power guy like Hester or Lester either....but i wouldn't call him finesse either.

it's really wierd..........

having said all that, i'm not upset that he'll be back next year. like this year, we will be set at RB....Foster, Hardesty and Creer will be good.

Thanks Jake. I have questioned myself a few times on criticizing him. But when it is all said I done I think I am accurate in calling him average. As I have said, that puts him above 99.999999% of what everyone else in the world would be, but as a UT fan I want better. Everyone agrees he is not fast, so then what are his strenghts? They are his power and size. But he does not accentuate those. He avoids contact, runs out of bounds more than I would like and way too often tries to get outside.

yep. when i think power back, i would refer you to what Hester did to Vinson on his 1st run of the game yesterday. I get the feeling Hester just lowers his head, closes his eyes and goes..........damn you if you get in his way. i hated to see one of our guys take a hit like that (reminded me of HW over bill bates), but it was imrpessive.

anyway.......1000 yards this year....hard to say it's all bad, but you're right...definitley not great.

McFadden and Jones would be my first two as well. I'm actually a big fan of Hester but you'd be hard pressed to convince me he was much if any faster than Foster, which seemed to be a gripe of yours in Foster's case. I like Moreno as well but if you're going to rip Arian for the LSU game why not rip Moreno for his TN and USC games, where he totalled, for BOTH games mind you, 30 carries for 75 yards at 2.5 ypc? Lester never broke a hundred yards against anyone. (22 for 98 against 'Bama was his best effort). Personally I like Rafael Little at UK but I don't think he's durable enough to be a true feature back.

So you name two players off the same team (twice), one with a speed limitation similar to Foster's, another back that got completely stoned in Foster vs LSU fashion at least twice and another back that never saw the far side of 100yds all season as examples of relegating Foster to "average" status. This is where my aforementioned reference to your pendulum swinging too far against Foster comes into play. If you want to say Foster is no great or awesome back, please understand, WE ARE IN AGREEMENT. But when you look at what Foster has done, on the field, no opinions, if he's "average" he's darn sure on the high-side of average when compared to what the rest of the league is fielding.

His style also influences my opinion. His lack of speed and big size should mean he is a physical back. But he is not. Lester at Auburn would run into a wall at full speed in my opinion, so I like him. Same goes for Hester.

There's little in this post I can disagree with though I think you might be understating Foster's physicality just a bit, though certainly not when compared to Hester. (that guy is fun to watch, isn't he)

123, the things that make Foster an above average back are his vision and his ability to break/slip/avoid the first tackler or two.
