$100 A Barrel Oil is on the Way

Could lower demand be tempering the price? I'm wondering if there has been some long-term reductions with hybrids and new fuel efficiency standards set forth by Obama. There have also been some big offshore finds lately. Combine all that with the fact that we aren't even in a peak driving season yet and I'm not so sure it is purely based on economic growth projections.

I could see it jumping north of $100 this summer though.

lower demand and the speculators (my argument is that speculation simply increases volitilty) are what got the price down to $50 early in the year. the lower demand was the result of the crappy economy though, not individuals consuming less. i can't imagine why fuel efficiency standards that dont' go into effect for 10 years would have an effect.

I think oil demand is suppose to taper in the U.S. because people are buying more fuel efficient cars. But it is suppose to explode in China and India, so the price is suppose to continue to rise.

While it's not confirmed if the leak is indeed oil, it looks like our streak of no oil spills form the offshore operations may have ended.

Despite this horrible accident (or was it? eco-terrorism, anyone?), offshore drilling is still a pretty stable operation. It'll be interesting to see what effects this has.

Bad timing

It means we turn the lower 48 states into Swiss Cheese and drill baby drill.

Why would you want it to spill? Perhaps it's because you disagree with drilling because of environmental concerns?

just wait until the team of Cuba/China start drilling it. I'm sure they will have the same environmental concerns and regulations that the US does

It's just a reminder that accidents happen, regardless of what the paid mouthpieces say on the campaign trail.

The oil doesn't care who spilled it.

when talking about US drilling, don't you think the US safety record is relavant?

so it's better that these accidents happen in saudi arabia than the US? even if it's far less likely in the US?

So, is the point that you are making that it is BP, not an American company, leaking oil right now from an (former) off-shore oil rig? So, the US record is clean? Is that a legitimate point to make when Shell and BP will be right there beside ExxonMobil, ConocoPhillips, and Chevron to drill the areas that are opened up? We aren't opening them up to only American companies are we?

if they are operated by american safety standards there should not be a problem. and i havent' seen an oil spill from this accident.

But let's keep this in perspective. Oil has a good record.

Also, there are paid and unpaid mouthpieces on the other side. I bet a bunch of green energy companies are playing this up.
