It is a helluva lot easier to recruit to Texas than Tennessee, as there are tons more good high school players in that weird, crazy western state.
Buzz Peterson was able to get C. J. Watson from Nevada, Bruce Pearl was able to get Tobias Harris from New York and Jerrone Maymon from Wisconsin, and Cuonzo Martin was able to get Josh Richardson from Oklahoma. Those were the most creditable players to my memory that came here from over 750 miles away. We have some very good players from states abutting Tennessee, as well as inside the state. However, we struggle getting the 5* types for some reason. It is gonna take that type of player, in greater abundance, in order to have a squad that will make us a force to contend with.
I believe that we need one 5* or two 4*s a year, who live up to their billing, and a disciplined coach, if we ever get back to the competitiveness that we showed when Bruce Pearl was our coach.
