'10 WA QB Garrett Grayson

Wait until you see his Spring film. That is what got colleges so interested. He is a completely different looking QB than in those other videos.

I hope you are right... but forgive me if I'm a little apprehensive about another west coast QB with rising stock (assuming it is).

I'm with you. To be honest this class just isn't that good for QB's. Like I said in another post if you want an immediate impact QB then Cameron Newton is better by far than any high school QB in this class with the "possible" exception of Heaps.

I'm not sure how many divisions are in Washington but Seattle area high school football among the bigger divisions is actually very very good.

Vancouver is right across the Columbia River from Portland... It isn't in the Seattle area.

I never saw it in Heaps... and he didn't seem to tear it up in camps this summer either.

I can't remember the name but the last huge prospect from the Seattle area was a WR from around SeaTac. I believe he went to ND and disappeared.

Yes I know. I'm just saying in general people tend to underestimate Washington high school football in a big way.

I disagree. It isn't very good unless it has improved dramatically in very recent years. Seems like there was a pretty solid program down around Ft Lewis but generally speaking there just aren't enough populace counties to have alot of competition.

No, I am not Garrett, but I must admit that I coach in the area. Vancouver is not as remote as people think. Portland-Metro, which includes Vancouver, has well over a million people in it. Football is not a joke here as some in the Southern United States may think. Oh yeah, Ainge is from the Portland-Metro area and Garrett plays against better competition in Washington. You can squash that argument.

As far as Garrett is concerned, he is the real deal. My "sources" (ie other coaches) tell me that his visit to Knoxville was less than stellar. A meeting with Lane? Didn't happen. The kid is a phenomenal athlete. Look at the strength numbers on rivals. Find me a QB with better measurables.

The Heaps vs Grayson argument has beein going around a long time now. Heaps' release gives him a high floor, but his athleticism/size (he's not 6'2") gives him a lower ceiling than Grayson. You can teach release/mechanics. JMHO from watching both play.

Taylor Mays and Steve Schilling have been outstanding college players to date at USC and Michigan respectively and they came out just a few years ago.

sjt18 sounds like he doesn't know much about Washington football (or it's been awhile). Heard of Bellevue, Skyline? They've been in the national rankings a lot recently.

And that safety at USC is Taylor Mays.

I'll take him

Thank you and WestcoastFB for helping out. It is really appreciated. I thought like sjt18 but upon research you are correct. There is some decent competition out there. Although, Heritage to me looks like they are a good team because of Grayson mostly. The line seems terrible.

There are some people on here feeling sour grapes if we lose Scroggins. They want the whole package. A great player and the stars and espn hype. Actually if you look at the last few days people are starting to talk about Grayson. I would say he is minimum 3 star and maybe but not likely can get a 4th. But, his line would have to be much better this year to make him look better. I think most the people on this board see Grayson as the best option after Scroggins for a high school QB that is uncommitted. I hope you guys are not offended by the critics.

boomboomblap, I've lived in NC, MO, SC, GA, IL, and WA.

I know you may be a little biased being a coach in that area... but the football there really doesn't compare to these other states very well. Even MO is better now.

It isn't necessarily the population densities in the metro areas that hurt you. It is the lack of widespread quality.

For all I know this kid may have learned to walk on water... but the quality of football in that area isn't on par with most of the SE. Tn, Ky, and NC are probably about the same range.

I've been out that way several times in last 5 years. It is a nice big area. My step-son lives in Portland. SHould have really good programs seems to me. Thanks for you feedback

a meeting with Lane didnt happen? He must know he has Scroggins if he cant find the time to sit down with this kid.

LV are you going to try to confirm with JB on this re: meeting? Someone with Hubbs? And JMVA any inside knowledge here?

sjt18...you sound like you were in the Army moving to all those areas. And though I appreciate your service, you're wrong about the state of prep football in the region. I am biased of course, but I am a California transplant and I can tell you that the football is good here and getting better.

But the subject is Garrett, and he is the real deal. If you can't heed my advice or eyes for that matter, just read the recent articles written about him against the best competition.

I dont think Lane is dumb enough to have a QB recruit on campus and not even meet with him......at least I sure hope he is not.

I know the visit was kind of spur of the moment, but there's really no excuse for Lane to not sit down and talk with this kid unless they just don't want him period. That could very well be the case. I saw nothing from him on video that I found overly impressive. Just an average QB in HS and those guys don't usually play at this level. JMO.

On the other hand, we could be just supremely confident we are going to land Scroggins which I do think is true. I have spoke with 3 different sources that have relayed the confident of the coaches. One spoke with Orgeron, another with Reaves, and another did not name his source. They all think they are going to get Scroggins. Read into that what you will. There is certainly a possibility that Scroggins is telling the coaches one thing and in truth he is leaning another way, I'm just not sure. I do know that the coaches remain confident.

How recently have you talked to these people? That's the puzzling thing about the situation. All the reports are that the coaches are confident, but the "insiders" say that he's definitely headed to USC.

1. Thanks for the info Re: Scroggins good stuff

2. LOL at the average QB comment. So if he is for sure the second best QB in WA by all experts. What is average to you? I mean he played at an Elite 11 and just camped at Louisville. Both places by professionals was regarded as the best QB there. I know you want Scroggins all Vols fans do. It would be insane to want Grayson over Scroggins just on the recruits Scroggins brings alone. But this kids measured physical gifts are exceptional. His stats are excellent on the field. That comment was totally off base. You can say he is not Scroggins but to say he is average is ridiculous. :hi:

Do you have a link to an article where anyone comes out and says Jesse is "definitely" going to USC? I know lots of people consider him a USC lean, but I havent saw anyone be that covinced.

Nope, no official articles, but I try to pay attention to the people on several boards that have good info. They all say he's going to USC.

find me a great QB with fantastic measurables. Typically, it's about arm strength, release, brains / quick thinking and work ethic.
