'10 VA QB Phillip Sims

I thinks Sims is a beter prospect than Heaps and maybe even Bell. He is more phsyically mature than Heaps and more developed and experienced than Bell. He has been starting for a couple years and putting up great numbers against good comp.

Bell is probably the best prospect out of them, a lot of it is due to his frame though. Sims is probably in the middle. Heaps probably isn't the best QB in terms of upside, but I'd say he's the closest to being able to come in and contribute right away.

On Virginia where he is being recruited by Latrell Scott:

"I like what I have heard about it and I do think I could do well in the spread. I am not cut out for a running-based spread but we run a lot of the elements of the passing-based spread offense. I want to get up to Virginia soon to watch a practice to get a feel for what direction they are going with their spread."

Not very encouraging that he uses "we" when referring to Virginia. Still, he says he is wide-open.

no way he goes to the 'hoos top virginia talent either jumps out of state or goes to the hokies uva gets mid-level in-state talent with the occasional diamond in the rough

uva gets good lineman tho. in the past couple years they send Dbrickasaw and Monroe both first rounders

d'brickashaw ferguson is from new york and eugene monroe is from new jersey both are out of state recruits...uva is miles behind tech on in-state recruiting. i would even say that ut, penn state and florida are ahead of uva in state

i thought you meant over all and in the past i would have to disagree with you with tenn being ahead but after the new staffs recharged our efforts i agree. although this year is not shaping up too good.

Before the coaching change this year, we were WAY ahead of UVA in Virginia. This could be attributed to Clawson. After we dropped some of the VA boys that were committed, we lost ground there, not that i'm complaining. It turned out alright.:)

jerod mayo, rico mccoy(dc counts as virginia when it comes to recruiting) brent vinson, jerod askew, cj fleming, and savion frazier would all disagree with you about that. and that's just off the top of my head

Tennessee will have a quarterback between now and August and Sims doesn't seem to be in any hurry to make a decision.

I'm fine with missing on Sims if its as a result of already having landed another one of our top QB targets, but can we make sure Askew is calling home to talk to Hailes as much as possible?

i don't think another commit will scare him off. He will have competition at any school he chooses with the type of schools on his list. He would have just as much a chance at playing time as the guy that commits before him. You never want a Qb that shys away from competition..period!

He will get inside info from Askew which could be a huge plus. i hope

Anybody know if there were more than just jerod askew to go to a SEC team from oscar smith high school this year?

Don't think so. I'm pretty sure the only other D1 guys they had last year both went to UVA, Jones and Smith. They had a DE who was very good last year, name escapes me at the moment, but I never heard anything about where he ended up.

Awesome. We need some top level QB competition. Let's get Sims and Heaps this year! Go Vols
