'10 TN QB Barry Brunetti

By win you mean not lose to Ole Miss, right?

Winning in the state of Miss. is truly an exercise in futility. But you can't convnce their fans of that. I swear they think they have a tradition rich in success like TN, Auburn, Bama, etc. They are delusional. More delusional than me...that is saying a lot.

I'm talking about averaging about 7 wins a year.

This wouldn't surprise me a bit. Watch for Brunetti and Grant to go to Starkville. That would help make them very competitive very very soon. Got a feeling Mullen will win in Starkville.

Miss St would not surprise me. His favorite WR target is walking on there this year. Would not surprise me in the least if that kid ends up actually playing down there.

I think TN still has a decent shot though. His uncle, who he has mentioned is in his decision making process, is the biggest UT advocate from what I was told.

My thinking is that it depends on what Scroggins does or what it appears at the time that Scroggins will do. If Scroggins goes elsewhere and it appears Brunetti would be the prize QB left for us, I think he comes. If Scroggins comes, he goes elsewhere. After talking to several people, that is what I gather.

I agree, I think he will do well there. As soon as I heard that he was going to Miss State I told my wife (State fan) that Miss State would be pretty good team in a couple of years. Time will tell though as far as how long it will take.

He's got Bumphis to play his Harvin role this year. That guy is explosive. All of the receivers that he picked up were speed guys. He'll have one of the fastest teams in conference soon.

Well that sucks. If true, I guess being a long time Vols fan isn't enough in the end.

Well being a UT fan and wanting to play for the school may not work all the time. I wouldn't want to ride the pine for several years waiting to play. Sometime you have to go where you have the best shot at playing.

It would be stupid for him to go to Miss St if he wanted to play. MSU signed a QB who is going to be very good. Tyler Russell. WVU or Oregon are the schools he will go to if he doesnt come here.

Despite the fact that he said yesterday he is considering 4 schools and failed to mention Oregon as one of them?

Then he should look no further than UT. Brunetti even said it himself, when referring to the depth chart.

Brunetti said depth at the quarterback position will be a major factor in his decision.

“Their depth chart is really just not that deep right now,” Brunetti said about UT. “They have one of the best depth chart quarterback situations of any other school.”

Maybe I am just being a stupid homer, but I have a hard time believing Tennessee isn't still a major player for Brunetti. With respect to the coach's comments, I don't see any reason for Tennessee to have fallen off the list by offering.

I havent seen that....Last i read was that he said that he fit the Oregon O perfectly. Thank you.

No big deal. Just wanted to point that out.

I agree that Russell is good at Miss St. I really think that it will come down to what direction it appears that Scroggins is headed after he visits. I think he would feel like his height would already put him at a disadvantage here behind Scroggins.

Much earlier in this thread I mentioned that I heard that he was upset with UT for not offering him at QB and he did not seem to fond of some of the staff (info I got from some of his teammates and coaches) but that I thought if we started showing interest as a QB things would change. And they did. We have come along with him, so I really think that we are still very much in the mix. And it helps that we are thin at QB.

Did not say that we were not a major player. He just thought the lean was elsewhere.

I'll bet Kiffin is hoping that he doesn't have to play Scroggins or Brunetti very quickly. I'm sure he would like for them to sit a couple years going through "training" before he has to depend on them.

IMO, he is looking for a solution that allows for that. None of these kids are in the mold to produce in the SEC as true freshman or true sophomores. I guess they have a chance since they have another high school year to go to maybe make it but that is not thinking at this point..

At least that is the sense I get from over there...

I'm kind of singing the same chorus as some of my other Vol-a-holics....

Why would we offer Brunetti, yet tell Tahj Boyd he wasn't good enough? Boyd was a better pocket passer, Army All-American, and obviously had a great feel playing with Bryce Brown in that game. Those 2 together in the backfield would be better than anything we have at the QB position (as of right now) for the next 2 seasons.

Brunetti is more of an athlete playing QB, plus he's playing high school football in TN which is in the bottom half of the 50 states as far as high school football talent.

Boyd was damaged goods.... If Kiffin was gonna take a qb in that class it would have been someone who could have competed this year.

I never saw anything about Boyd that warranted him being so highly regarded. Lane and company obviously felt the same. They've had similar evaluations of other highly regarded prospects. With Edwin Herbert, at least, they were right on.

I heard that the ducks are waiting to offer Brunetti late, due to a low gpa.

Here's what he had to say about the ducks:
"I love Oregon, I would love to get an offer and take a visit. I don't have one yet but I would really love to hear more from the University of Oregon." "We run a similar run option spread at school right now, I am deadly with my legs, but I look to throw first," says Brunetti. "Oregon 's offense is a perfect fit for me."

Maybe Brunetti has "it" and Boyd didn't?

Who cares?
