'10 TN QB Barry Brunetti

I realize Brunetti is in state talent, but how hard is UT really recruiting him as a QB? He doesn't seem to fit our system very well, and it doesn't appear that we have offered either.

Some recent notes:

- Orgeron visited him at his school today.
- He has told some of his teammates that he was not a big fan of our staff (its seems primarily because they dont seem to want him as a QB)
- Miss St. is strong after him as a QB (at least they say so) and have just gotten one of his HS teammates (a WR) and friends to walk.

At this point, I really think that he would be a Miss. State lean. Sounds a little strange, but a coach told me that he has grown a little leery of some of the bigger programs because they are not 100% committed to him being a QB. Apparently several schools have said they were, but word got back to him that they were evaluating him for other positions as well. One plus I did hear was that Kiffin was one of the few coaches who was honest and up front about where he thought the kid would play in college (position wise).

Also, I thought I would throw in a little extra tidbit. Not a shock, but I hear that the other SEC coaches are throwing Kiffin and crew under the bus on the recruiting trail. I talked to two different recruits who said several coaches painted a very ugly pic of the coaches and how things were being run in knoxville. One kid seemed to be sold hook line and sinker on this. The two staff's that were mentioned most at doing this was Auburn and Miss. St.

Auburn and Trooper negative recruiting against us doesn't surprise me at all. That's what had David Oku so confused. Doesn't matter. They will have a worse record than we will this year.

What position is Kiffin looking at Brunetti at, GV2003? have you heard that?

Idk if he should go to Miss st. The have a guy comin in (Tyler Russell) who looks to be very underrated and can (and prolly will) play alot as a true frosh.

The initial thing that I heard was as an athlete. I know that today, Orgeron was there as Brunetti worked out as a QB with a couple of WR's.

His work ethic is really impressing me at this point. I know that he is working about 4 days a week on his throwing right now. 2 days a week are spent working on his mechanics and and accuracy by throwing to some of his receivers. The other 2 days are spent doing a custom workout that his strength coach set up for him to strengthen (and protect for that matter) his arm. The thought of this kids arm getting stronger is scary.

I was told that a few schools have balked on his GPA bc its a little low. One prominent school even quit recruiting him altogether. Thing is that he is not consider at risk though because his GPA is actually much higher due to the way his private school weighs their GPA's (sounds confusing but he is in some honors classes).

Russell is very good and I to think that would not be the best choice, but they are speaking the right language right now. If you look at the schools that have offered as of now, Miss St might be the leader by default. Definitely better than Memphis. Duke has offered, but that might be a stretch academically for him (not saying he is not smart, just saying its Duke). Georgia seems impressed, but they are pretty log jammed with QBs. Kentucky has shown a lot of interest as of late, but they apparently promised a kid his uncle coaches (Pearl Cohn in Nash I think) a shot at the QB job last year and moved him to TE as soon as he got their. This axed them from what I heard. Ohio St. was looking pretty hard, but then told him that the defensive coaches liked him as well and that apparently sent up red flags. Ole Miss said no as a QB. Virgina Tech is starting to get in the mix I believe.

I have this weird feeling that even though he seems to act like he is not interested in TN, if we offered as a QB, he tune would change quickly.

Just looked at his vert and shuttle numbers on Rivals. If you watch this kid, they seem way to slow. I heard he was tested last week at school (they have electronic timers there I know) and he was way lower than what is up there.

I have no doubt Brunetti will be a good QB somewhere. It just won't be here. Not sure if it will even be in the SEC.

ATH doesn't tell us much. I'm sure if we aren't recruiting him at QB, we are at least giving him an idea of where he would be playing. Not faulting you for not knowing, I'm just saying.

I have heard multiple times from people close to Brunetti that he really wants to play QB at the next level and I think he has the talent to.

Agreed. He will be a good QB at the next level. If he were 2-3 inches taller, he would probably be a 5*. That seems to be the knock on him.

I do know that they (his school and family) are telling coaches that he only wants to be considered as a QB and is not willing to switch at the next level.

I tried to find out what position TN was looking at him for, but cant seem to find anyone that knows. Honestly, I think that there are several positions outside of QB that he could play. He has the moves and quickness to play RB or WR. He also has good size to play in a safety spot.

Rivals has him as the #1 DQB now.

And as usual, UT will pass on him too. The QB's we have now aren't 6'3-6'4, and they seem to find passing lanes. Brees has excelled at his height. We are hanging our future on Heaps and we not gonna get him. Waited probably to late for Scroggins, because he'll feel like a back up plan. Brunett should be pissed. I know he's like oh, now you want to recruit me cause Heaps isn't coming.

That's my point 3rd behind Heaps and Scroggins. We'll end up missing both and Brunetti will go elsewhere. Leaving us scrambling for a QB. I don't like the mad dash at the end. We won't have the success and luck we had at the end of the 2009 signing day this year.

+1... the comments under each Qb thread make it sound like he is inside the recruiting war room or something. I trust the staff and their strategy. It ain't there first rodeo. Heaps is the only one that can make the immediate impact as a freshman besides a JUCO QB liek Newton. Otherwise they will take two guys who they love their potential and focus on 2011 Qbs. Much more to choose from next year from early reports.

Memphis (Tenn.) University School quarterback Barry Brunetti is the top-ranked player at his position according to Rivals.com, and picked up his biggest offer to date last week when Penn State quarterbacks coach Jay Paterno stopped by the school and verbally offered the four-star signal-caller.

"They kept close, Jay Paterno came in and saw me, and as Kermit (Buggs) said they were going to try to offer me but they only offered quarterbacks after they meet them," he said. "He verbally offered me and I should be getting my letter sometime (Monday) or Tuesday. He said he didn't have to (watch me throw), the film said it all."

Per Rivals... I might poop myself if Joe Pa walked into my high school to offer me a scholarship...
