This is not good... :nono:
We will have to throw the ball to stay in the game against UF.
Two things: 1. Alzheimer's must be starting at 38 for me. 2. No offense to Lott and Galyon, who were solid players, but they're no more "Legends" than Andre Creamer or Darrin Miller. They might want to look into changing the name of that segement.Coach Majors and James Berry will be the Legends of the game for UCLA.
Andre Lott and Scott Galyon for W. Kentucky

The biggest question for me on Saturday is how will Crompton play. Can he manage a game? If not, the stadium will be empty for the Vandy game.
I agree with you but I think the key against Florida is going to be how long we're able to keep their offense on the bench by keeping their D on the field, i.e. no turnovers, power run game that wears them down, and an efficient passing game--doesn't need to be flashy, just productive.
And I think that philosophy holds true for the entire season. If Crompton simply manages the game, keeps us out of 3rd and a longs, doesn't turn the ball over, and at the very least makes defenses have to account for the passing game, then it works to the Vols' advantage and can make a 7 or 8 win team into a 9 or 10 win team.
That is what I'm looking for on Saturday...signs that Crompton can manage the game.

... and really hoping not to see the ol' "stare your primary receiver down so he gets nailed right when the ball arrives" Crompton...
Nothing we do Saturday is going to help regain any national respect. The only way anyone even gives the score of our game a second glance is if we don't win handily.Absolutely. If UF--and even UCLA--see's that on film against WKU...he'll either get our WR's killed, get intercepted for a pick 6, or worse..both.
But I don't think we'll REALLY know until the UCLA game. As long as our guys don't play down to the competition, this game should be over mid way through the 3rd qtr...and if that happens I hope Lane keeps his proverbial foot on their proverbial throats until 5 min remaining. No more mercy...this is a 5-7 team that's got A LOT of respect to earn back, nationally. TAKE IT BACK...don't wait to have it handed to you!

I've been wondering how this new regime, and the new style of football would shape the face of the fans in the stadium. Will the new style drive out the old "good ole boy" network of fans? Will the blue hairs opt for staying at home instead of going to Neyland and telling the fans who are on their feet 99% of the game to sit down and be quiet?

If every player dressed out on our sideline doesn't play, and if serious consideration isn't given to putting the waterboys in, I'll consider it a failure.Nothing we do Saturday is going to help regain any national respect. Honestly, I think it's going to be tough to determine just how GOOD we are this Saturday given our opponent. The individual stats among the players I don't really care about. Here are the things I'll be looking for.
1.) Can we avoid mistakes?
I will be looking at how well we execute the simple things like lining up correctly, clean hand offs, no silly off sides or encroachment penalties, no delay of game penalties, etc.
2.) Do we tackle well?
I will be looking to see if we go out there and punish people. I'll be looking to see if there are a lot of missed tackles or arm tackles. Also I will be looking to see if we overpursue (something I feel was always a problem under Chavis.)
3.) Do we capitalize on opportunities?
When we do cause fumbles or have interceptions, I'll be looking to see how well we follow through by turning those opportunities into points.
4.) Will Crompton make smart choices?
I'll be looking to see if Crompton plays smart and doesn't lock in on his primary receiver everytime. He might can get away with that Saturday but not in the weeks following. Will he know when to take a sack or throw the ball away? Will he know when to check off? Things like that.
5.) Will our special teams come to play?
I expect to see at least one big special teams play this Saturday, especially against this opponent.
6.) Has Lincoln shaken off his "sophomore jinks?"
I am looking to see huge improvement from Daniel Lincoln this year!
7.) If we do screw up, will Kiffin and Co put a boot in someone's ass or will they stand their and clap?
I know many hated it when Fulmer would say "gotta go study the film" or "work like heck." However nothing irritated me more than to see one of our players do something wrong only to show Fulmer clapping on the sideline! I HATED that more than anything else about Fulmer!
8.) Will we play fast?
That may sound odd but there were so many times in years past where to me it just looked like we were stuck in molasses! I really do think this is a symptom of slow tempo practices! Actually, I'm quite confident this won't be the case but I will be looking for it! IMO, we haven't "played fast" since we played Cal at home in 06.
9.) Do we play with attitude and swagger?
I am a firm believer in that whatever personality your coach and staff has, that's the personality your team will have. In years past I've always thought we were a "soft" team. Not just physically but mentally and emotionally. We looked less like Superman and more like Clark Kent. I want us to come out with real attitude and intimidate our opponents! I want us to make Neyland Stadium a place that players don't want to have to come to play.
10.) Do we have the killer instinct?
Fulmer won many games. I'll give him that. However I can't possibly count how many times we've had opponents on the ropes and instead of putting them to the ground for good, we carried them the last few rounds and played not to lose. I want to see us not only knock opponents to the ground but step on their necks afterwards. How many times have we played the Marshalls, the UAB's, the Southern Miss' and the scores would be 27-10, 17-14, etc? I want us to make examples of these other schools and orchestrate the same kind of blowouts and put up the "Playstation" like numbers that Texas, Oklahoma, Florida, and Southern Cal does!
I agree with you but I think the key against Florida is going to be how long we're able to keep their offense on the bench by keeping their D on the field, i.e. no turnovers, power run game that wears them down, and an efficient passing game--doesn't need to be flashy, just productive.

Another way to keep their offense on the bench is to force them to go three and out. When you do this, you can use your offense to try to score points instead of merely using them as a means to run down the clock enough to avoid a *really* embarrasing loss.
