'10 SC DE Brandon Willis

Snap! I've never heard of a player committing THREE times to the same school. But I'd take him in a heartbeat. There's no question we need him, and he is a great player.

He had an interesting recruiting experience. He was as solid as a recruit gets until the old coaching staff skipped town. I always felt like the UNC commitment was a knee-jerk reaction on his part, and I suspected we might see a transfer from him. I never thought it would be this soon, and I really didn't know if UT would be a possible destination, but I had the feeling his decision to go to UNC was more based on him feeling betrayed by people employed by UT (and UT itself by extension) than it was about UNC winning him over.

per the big spur (sc 24/7 site) Willis is indeed heading to TN

but only because UCLA and SC turned him down

I wonder if he could petition transferring and sitting out due to his mothers death similiar to Eliot Williams leaving Duke (mother was sick). Terrible situation for him hopefully everything works out best for him .

this would be great news. its about time we get some of that.

i remember the last time we had good news though. a bar fight and a loss of a team member, shortly followed by two DL going down. god i hope nothing too bad comes of this.

Playing time? The kid could conceivably be starting by years end if he is as good as his hype. We are razor thin at DT and we have to expect some attrition. First good news in a great while if true.

I don't see why UNC would care if he transferred to UT. We don't play them at all. Only thing I could see is they recruit the same region and don't want to help UT out in their rebuilding.

Isn't this the same kid Blake was rumored to have paid to come to UNC? Could this transfer have anything to do with that?

If UNC releases him from scholarship (would they?) would he be eligible to play this fall?

He should be able to if they give him an unconditional release. However, he was an early enrollee and went through spring practice, so I'm not sure if that matters or not. Not sure since he has yet to play a game.

unconditional release means he can be placed on scholarship...but i think the ncaa transfer rule means he has to sit out a year

I am not sure about that. Wasn't that why Brown wanted a release? Now that he doesn't have it he has to sit out a year.

Brown would have had to sit out anyways, but he could be placed on scholarship. Willis has yet to play a game for UNC. Not sure if it matters though.
