I thought Florida was the leader...

It does not appear so. He says in today's article that he has not spoken to Florida much at all lately. He also said that the Florida camp is on the same day (or weekend) as the the FSU camp, so he probably won't be able to make it to the Florida camp...

And remember this article was done by the Gator's Scout site. Those are the only 2 times he mentions Florida in the story. He talks alot about UT, some about FSU, and mentions visiting UNC soon. But that's all he says about any schools. He does talk more about the Vols than anybody, but I have a feeling he likes the Noles. Seems like I heard that somewhere else too. Can't remember...

Wow a top 5 that doesn't include another SEC team, have to like that!

Does anyone know what Corey Millers top five looks like? I think the only other team he is interested thats the same is UNC...am I right?

just think... FSU could get both of these byrnes kids, and get riggs & joyner from st. thomas aquinas.

those two schools are going to play each other this year. it would be so awesome to be an FSU fan watching that game

Yes, Miller and Willis both wanted to go out of state. Clemson has an alumnus there in Bentley. That is what's surprising as Clemson was considered a Byrnes pipeline. Also, many people felt Bright was an offer last year from FSU to start a pipeline from Byrnes. As many as 8 players could get scholarships this year from Byrnes on different levels.

Bentley is the Byrnes coach who is connected to the so-called Byrnes pipeline to Clemson. I had brain freeze when I said alumnus.

Willis is basically a Nole Lock. Miller is a little more open, but still an FSU lean. Lattimore is a 50/50 shot to be a Nole as well.

bentley has been away from the byrnes program a couple of years. he went back to his college alma mater, presbyterian, and it didn't work out. he is the one that built the byrnes program and this year he is back as the offensive coordinator. i wouldn't exactly call byrnes a clemson pipeline either. only 3 kids in the past few years have went to clemson, willy korn, xavier dye, and chad diehl and not really that many before that. most of the D1 kids go out of state. believe it or not i can only think of 1 kid that has ever went to south carolina from byrnes and that was freddy brown. he was red shirted then his 5th year was asked to leave. i don't think we have a realistic shot at lattimore only because of the signing of oku and brown. miller and willis are wide open and we do have a realistic shot at 1 or both.

I hope CEO and Monte can wear on Willis...and if, during the season, the defense looks as good as advertised, we'll start to see a lot of interest and commitments change/open up again. Willis has the Kevin Carter type of DT frame that you want.

As For Lattimore...I'm kind of torn between trying to secure another big name RB, just for insurance....but quite frankly I think it would hurt this more than it would help. The stable is so full, I think it will inevitably lead to some resentment within the fold, and we don't want that. Travis Henry left at one point, and we were fortunate enough that family talked him into not giving quitting. I just don't want us to pull a USC and try to get too greedy here.
For the 2011 class...sure. But right now, I'd like us to maybe focus on Keon Williams as a Bruiser/Power Back, which we don't currently have. I wouldn't be upset if we just didn't take one in this class, and instead used that scholly on another lineman or WR.

With Tennessee, Willis is impressed not only with the new coaching staff the Volunteers have put together, but also the prospect of an emerging program.

He plans to be in Knoxville September 12 when the Volunteers take on UCLA at Neyland Stadium, and will be keeping a close eye on UT's progress throughout the '09 season.

"With Lane Kiffin, Monte Kiffin, and Ed Orgeron, and their whole staff, I mean, they really have something good," he said. "They really have a game plan. They really have a future for Tennessee. I mean, people are buying into it, their fans, but they're really going to have to prove themselves this year. I'm going to be there to watch them coming in---the UCLA game versus Tennessee---I'll be there."

"Ed Orgeron is a great defensive line coach. Everywhere he's gone, he's produced," Willis added. "He's been in the 'league.' He's been just about everywhere. He seems like a good coach. He has good technique."

"The five that I named in my top five (schools), the coaches there, and the coaches at North Carolina, Butch Davis and John Blake, and the coaches at Cal, Tosh Lupoi, (Todd) Howard at UCLA, Odell (Haggins) at Florida State, and Tennessee, Ed Orgeron," he said. "My position coaches, that really makes the difference, because he's going to be coaching me. It's not going to be everybody coaching me. It's your position coach, so as long as I have a good relationship with them, everything is going to be all right."

"My choice in choosing people, I want to be around somebody that can develop me as a player, because everybody wants to go to the league, but you have to be put in the hands of people that can develop you to take it to the next level, so that's really what I'm looking for," Willis added.

One thing about Willis is that he's not looking for college coaches to 'sweet talk' him and give him an unrealistic picture of how much work it will take for him to become a superstar in college football.

He knows that it's not going to be easy to enter a top-flight college program and become a starter from Day One, and that he's going to have to work for what he gets.

"You know, there's no 'sweet deal' in college football," he said. "You're going to have to work wherever you go. So I'm not looking for someone to persuade me, tell me that it's easy or whatever or that I'm going to come in and start. If you come in, you're going to have to work anyway (whether you start or not), so me just feeling comfortable with the coaches and the area around there, that's really my big thought about it."
