as CDD pointed out in an interview earlier this off-season and as should be common sense. It is very difficult for a player to do all 3 phases of the kicking and even 2 is hard. Kicking and punting are all about repetition and doing certain things the exact right way.. Focusing one one is often better then 2 or 3 simply because of the different mechanics involved. This is why teams very rarely have the same guy doing punts and kicks especially at the collegiate and NFL level. it happens a lot more often in High school simply for the fact that finding kickers at that level of any talent is harder.

i'm not saying that Palardy would do all three, but i'm saying he probably would have been rated as the number 1 punter in the nation had he not already been rated as a kicker.

I am also confused. Anyone read anything that clears this up? Not sure how good this signing would be because of palardy, but every little bit helps at this point. :)

Both Lincoln and Cunningham are seniors so we will need to add a kicker unless someone not on scholarship comes on strong. Chip Rhome did a decent job in the O&W game. He punted and place kicked. David Harrington also punted.

Looks like he's eligible right away, if he did, in fact get a complete release from Fresno State. See FAQ's and answers below from the NCAA:

What happens if I change my mind about attending the institution with which I signed, and I want to attend another National Letter of Intent institution instead?

If you do not attend the institution with which you signed, or if you do not fulfill the terms of the National Letter of Intent, the basic penalty is that you lose one season of competition in all sports and must serve one year in residence at your next National Letter of Intent institution.

Can the National Letter of Intent basic penalty be eliminated or reduced?

Yes. The basic penalty may be eliminated by asking for and receiving a National Letter of Intent complete release. If the institution does not grant a complete release from the NLI, you may appeal for a release to the NLI Policy & Review Committee, which may grant a level of relief if extenuating circumstances warrant.

...and, upon further review, his taking official visits to UT and LSU make it clear that he did get the complete release. So, he should be good to go for the 2010 season. See below:

If I fail to honor my NLI commitment, is it possible for another NLI institution to recruit me?

Yes, but only if you have received a complete release or had the NLI recruiting ban lifted by the institution with which you signed. The lifting of the NLI recruiting ban must be indicated on the NLI Release Request Form. If the NLI recruiting ban is lifted, it is not limited to certain institutions, but to all institutions seeking to recruit you. Note this NLI recruiting ban policy is different from the NCAA permission to contact requirements in NCAA Bylaw 13.1.1.3.

Each conference also has transfer rules in addition to the NCAA rules that, in some cases, are more stringent. You have to take those into account regarding any potential transfers.

Can't see how anyone can think this is a bad thing.

We're going to kick a lot of field goals and punt often the next couple of seasons in all likelihood.

Good point. But I don't think that he can be considered a transfer since he never attended Fresno State. Not sure if there are any conference rules that affect guys who are that unusual situation or not.

Any time a student athlete signs a national LOI, and wants to attend a different university, transfer rules apply with certain exceptions allowed [or not] by the NCAA and the particular conference. In this case, the AA provides an exception since he was granted a full release by the college. That doesn't mean that additonal conference transfer rules do no apply.

EEs are treated differently than athletes that commit during the national signing period by signing an LOI.

I'm waiting on the 'of course Dooley is after the #1 punter with the 2 and 3 * character players he's targeting' posts.
