Alfy Hill - Football Recruiting

ESPNU150 Watch List defensive end Alfy Hill is from an area of North Carolina (Shallotte is just north of Myrtle Beach, S.C., a stones throw from the border) that rarely produces Division I-level talent. Its an under-recruited area to say the least, so schools are just finding out about him.

But as programs have gotten the word, his offer list has grown.

North Carolina State, Georgia Tech, Tennessee, Iowa State, Purdue and Virginia Tech have offered Hill and several other schools, like North Carolina and South Carolina, are showing interest.

The offer from the Vols, his only from a Southeastern Conference program, caught Hill by surprise.

I watched Tennessee and Clemson a lot growing up, he said. I was excited to get the offer from N.C. State because it was my second offer. I never thought I would get an offer from the Vols. I plan on going over there sometime this summer. I am wide open with the schools I am considering, though.

Hill also plans trips to North Carolina and Virginia Tech for camps. He says the Tar Heels told him they were currently evaluating him. He attended North Carolinas Junior Day.

Hill was an All-State and All-Conference selection as a junior.

Hill came in at 60th overall in the initial Rivals rankings, and a new highlight video is up for Rivals subscribers.

"South Carolina is my leader," he said. "Then it's Tennessee, Virginia Tech and North Carolina. I probably won't commit until after my senior season is over."

"I am loving this offer. Alabama is big time, and I would have never expected a big-time school like Alabama to have offered me a couple of years ago," said Hill who stands 6-foot-4, 245 pounds. "It is just the product of a lot of hard work and support from my family and coaches.

"This shakes my plans up quite a bit. I did have a list of favorites, but now I am back to square one on everything because I want to check out Alabama. I am now wide open and I will not be in a big rush to end this.

"I got offered by Clemson, Maryland and Michigan last week," Hill said. "Everybody is just the same right now. I'm still looking. [NC] State and [North] Carolina are recruiting me the hardest."

“I’ll probably make a decision in June or a couple months away. It’s not going to be that long.

“I don’t have a top five right now. I would say NC State and Carolina are doing the best job of recruiting me. They are doing the best job of keeping in touch with me. They email me, they’ve come down to see me. We talk all the time on the phone.”

Tennessee – "(Quarterbacks) coach (David) Reaves came by. He's cool and down-to-earth. I think of national championships when I think of Tennessee."

"UNC, NC State, West Virginia, Tennessee and Wake Forest are recruiting me the hardest," the 2010 recruit listed. "But everybody is on the same level for me right now. I don't have any favorites. I still would like to make my choice later this summer."

its kind of weird to think that someone who was 6 or 7 years old at the time we last won a NC thinks about NCs when he thinks of us. but i'll take it.

when i think tennessee, my whole brain gets an orange tint, and i think that there couldnt be a better place on earth, having seen quite a few places.

One possibility is Tennessee. “I’ve talked to (quarterbacks) coach David Reaves and he seems nice,” Hill said. “I really like what they are doing there. I love how they got a bunch of NFL coaches and are recruiting all the best players.”

Per Scout... His top 2 are NC State and UNC...

This guy should get rid of "alfy" and pick a more intimidating name. It will move him up at least half a round in the 2014 NFL draft.

Terrific. The type of defensive end that eats quarterbacks for breakfast. I hope Fugate goes low for a block and helmets him in the nards.

Good. This is the first year we've had a pash rush in about a decade or so. We'll take a freakish beast of a Jack Backer!

I am glad we got him, especially out of NC. B Davis beware the SEC is moving in. I believe UA/UT/USC are starting to flex in the state.
