'10 JUCO QB Cameron Newton

He did break into a dorm room and steal a computer. When the cops came to check it out, he chucked it out the window.

Not accurate...and I am not defending because I like him as much as I hate false claims. He bought the laptop for way cheaper then anyone should have sold it for..thus he should of known it was stolen...then when someone reported him in the dorms as having a reported stolen laptop he chucked it out the window. There was no breaking and entering just to be clear.

Cam Newton wouldn't beat out Stephens for the job - I don't think he could learn the system in time to start in 2010. Then Bray starts in 2011.

Casey didn't lose a game his freshman year until we got drilled by KSU in the Cotton Bowl. That was Joey Mathews and AJ Suggs struggling during Casey's freshman year.

Ainge and Schaeffer made a go of it as freshmen in 2004.

Peyton struggled at times in 94, but that is also why he was so good in 95

He most definitely would IMO... But we don't want him unfortunately.

He has 4 total offers this time around, which tells me that grades and character issues are an issue with him. Sorry, he's not worth it, even if he can leap tall buildings with a single bound.

Don't mean to get off topic and I know it's been said before by others but...that eye is really creepy. :p

Wow. That can't even be described as a jump to conclusions. The two do not even seem to relate to each other.

My foot aches which tells me that I was hit over the head with a hammer.

New article:
"Of course this isn't my first rodeo in this recruiting thing. I'm not looking for the glitz and the glamour, I want to go somewhere I can get my attributes toned up so I can be as successful as I can be and make as much money as I can in the NFL. The team that I can pick is the best part for me I can make the right choice for myself," he explained.

He is no longer talking about visiting UT when discussing schools he is interested in tripping to.

Well, let's see here....

1. He only has ONE offer from an SEC school. Which typically means that for a JUCO that classes/grades are probably an issue.

2. He's had character issues since he was at Florida and was suspended for the first half when we went to evaluate him. For some who was concerned about being a starter, he sure put himself in a bad position doing that with a school visiting that was showing some interest.

3. For all the hype surrounding him, he doesn't even have CLOSE to the offer list that he had coming out of HS. Which means that #1 and #2 are more true now than they were coming out of HS.

Oklahoma isn't an SEC and grades are easier to get by with out there. I'm going to say he goes to Oklahoma at this point, because he won't have to worry about grades during his enrollment as much, he would be going to a program who has a history of winning, and they run the spread for the most part. SEC schools are at a disadvantage with him right now because of making sure he has all his grades in order, Big 12 not so much. I think it hilarious at this point to for ANYONE to say he wants to play in a PS offense after he offered this gem in that article....
"In this day and time the days are gone with the drop back quarterback who just sit back and throw the ball to the receivers. It's slim to none and in the NCAA they are looking for that mobile quarterback," he said. "Coach will call a play and sometimes the reads won't go as planned.
While what he says about the reads maybe true at times, what he says about drop-back quarterbacks is hilarious to me.

There is no doubting his talent. He is very good. Tennessee just doesn't want him and he doesn't want Tennessee.

End of story.

Cameron Newton = Mississippi State

He wants a school to guarantee him the starting spot. Until someone else does that (Mississippi State reportedly did), that won't change.

The only way Tennessee would guarantee anyone a starting spot was if Eric Berry came back for his senior year or if Peyton Manning found a loophole in NCAA rules and came back for a 5th year of eligibility. Here's guessing neither of those happen.

Cam Newton was in Fayetteville, Ga recently and said that he liked Tennessee a lot. Whether we like him is a different story and I have no idea what we are telling him. He has a little brother that plays football near Fayettevile and Hampton.

Reading articles like this make me sick that we aren't taking him.
Newton’s speed and agility have been called crazy good and
his arm is amazing. It’s no stretch to see why some called him the next Vince Young when he was in high school.

Sooner fans could know sooner than later. Newton is a mid-term enrollee, which means he’ll be on a campus somewhere by Dec. 20.
Tulsa World: From the blogs: Junior college star could add to OU's quarterback question

UNC is rumored to have offered as well.

From Scout:

Quarterback Cameron Newton helped lead Blinn College on to a National Championship in '09 and he will be a major impact player for a D1 college. Just take a look at his latest highlight reel for the firsthand proof.

yeah...

I refuse to believe that we are not taking Newton due to character issues...

we have continued to recruit several recruits with questionable character issues that many other schools backed off of...

not sure why we like Simms better

Open competition. We will not promise anyone they will be the starter coming in. We want to have an open competition. Newton does not align with that.

According to the most recent article, he contradicts what he said a few months ago about that. I agree though, he could beat out Landry Jones in their offense.

No he doesn't. He basically says the same thing without saying it. He isn't going somewhere that he isn't going to be the assumed starter. I don't know how you could think that contradicts what he said.

"I want to be clear, I don't want anything given to me. I just want to know that if I come in and compete that I will be the put-in starter with me competing day in and day out as I earn the respect of my coaches and teammates," he said. "So on fourth and one they can have that trust in me that I can make the play. I see a lot of opportunities at Oklahoma for me to be a key component for a national championship run.
The dude hasn't changed his stance. He is going to make an awful lot of noise if he goes somewhere and doesn't win a starting job. That's the main reason he doesn't have a crap-ton more offers than he does.

Yet you somehow missed what he said one sentence before the first one you highlighted. He's saying it to get more offers, but what he really wants he's going to keep to himself now, IMO.

Exactly. He knows he's scaring away offers with that stance, but he still is saying it without saying it. That's my point. You've confused me on yours now.

I didn't miss anything -- the entire quote was posted. The points I wanted to emphasize were bolded. That's a common practice. I guess you haven't noticed. :)

Newton is better than anyone we have on our roster....by a long shot, and with all Spring and Summer to get acclimated to the playbook and offense, he'd hit the ground running. He knows that, I know that...and obviously Oklahoma, UNC and and MSU know that too. The whole guarantee of a starting job is not even worth talking about. The guy is a starter...teams NEEDING a starter (most prefer to grow their own, so to speak), like us, are the only ones who would be considering him.

I don't have any hope of us getting back into it, but I would sure welcome a Christmas surprise.

The coaches have a lot of confidence in Stephens FWIW.
