Newton would have already got an offer if the staff thought that highly of him. He might look awesome in the highlight film but he might be playing a bunch of nobodies and he definitively has character issues that the staff has learned from in the past aka Warren/Moreley. He's much better off at MSU anyways. Mullen runs the same offense so he wouldn't have to learn as much. I think he has the talent to run a PS system but does he have the mental capacity????? Thats a million dollar question that none of us know and i'm willing to bet that he's not the brightest guy ever, which is probably one of the many reasons he didn't receive an offer. Does that answer your inquiries Tennacious? This ship sailed long ago. Please get over it and stop bringing this thread back up to the top and wasting everyone's time. If you're right I'll be the first to give you props, but the odds are stacked against you especially when we have Bray who was hand picked by Kiffin for the system and a great outside shot at Rees who was also handpicked. Wouldn't you rather have them than just another super athlete playing QB who thinks he IS the team. He wants to play in a PS offense to improve his draft stock for the NFL and thats all he cares about. He just sees the vols as a way of making lots of money for himself one day but that would require a work ethic and his probably aint that great either but your right "we'll see" so please stop posting in this thread until signing day. thanks

Newton's top 2 teams are KSU and MSU. UT is pushing hard for Rees and, imo, we have a good shot at turning him. Newton will likely go wherever he is guaranteed to start as is his WR teammate.

Yeah...we're not even in the running. I guess the staff let him know they are going in a different direction. There's not a more pressing need at QB than ours, and he stated that he was looking where the need was the biggest. Oklahoma, Kansas State, MSU and NC are in the running for him...and what's strange is they had reps present at his teams National Championship game.

Funny how Oklahoma and NC want him and we don't. Oh well....like Luc, it's just more bad news for me to have to digest.

There have been plenty of people that said we weren't pursuing him and you didn't believe us. Just saying.

If you had been listening to everybody who has been telling you for weeks that the coaches don't want Newton, maybe it wouldn't be so painful for you.

About as well as Newton does.

Newton not being pursued by UT has nothing at all to do with his ability to run a pro-style offense. If all they were looking at was physical capabilities, Newton would already have committed to the Vols.

So, you can play some sort of "I told you so" routine when it turns out in your favor, yet not have egg on your face for all these "Vol Lock" calls with Luc.

You didn't KNOW...you were just guessing/speculating as always. My position was again, just a wait and see. Nothing wrong with that at all...it's sticking your neck out with predictions and being dogmatic with your speculations when the whole issue is fluid and subject to change, that makes one look like an @$$. If anyone looks like one it's you "Experts" who were also saying Simms was out of it...wrong again. Go back to your corner and think about what you've done.

All I'm saying is the staff is entertaining Simms over Newton. I know I'm no coach, analyst, or recruiter, but dang I just don't understand it. Simms is bad news and if Newton isn't consider aint considered bad news??? All i need to know is why Simms is better than Newton, or a less risk??? They were both benched for different reasons when the staff came to visit.

He's not better than Newton. I question whether he's better than Lamaison.

I want to believe that the coaches are just feeling Simms out and that no offer on the trip means that they didn't see what they wanted to see.

The alternative is that he is a last choice option because the coaches want to add another QB period. I don't know that to be the case, but the signs sure do point to it. It's not the best year to need two QBs, but the coaches are working a couple of HS guys very hard.

Find where I said anything about Luc being a Vol Lock, you won't. So, don't put me in with that crowd.

In regards to Simms, he's a fall back option and pretty much even says so.
