To some degree, that's true...Newton has better measurables and was highly rated out of HS.

It's rare to have someone like him in the JUCO ranks. However, Lamaison may surprise a LOT of folks this spring and fall, as he was a 1st team AA JUCO, putting up better #'s than Newton, and he's accurate. I don't expect much, but I don't discount his potential either. I still think CLK sees something more than just a warm body in the kid, knowing that he just let go a 5* QB (Boyd).

Even for a backup QB, why would you just grab a warm body who's not even going to know the playbook in 2009? I think CLK has demonstrated well enough that he's more selective than that.

BTW, He mentioned him doing well in practice today, which I was surprised to hear.

He's talking about Nick Lamaison or Stephens leaving and I agree with him.

I doubt either will leave before or during Spring ball. They want a chance to see who's going to get the call, coming out of Spring....like Coleman did. That way, they can still transfer with a full season left.

If you don't practice you have no chance at all to start...so why would you leave beforehand? If Bray is named the starter, then I can see Stephens bail.

We will see. The thought process is why go through a spring practice with a team that you know you don't want to be on? Go ahead and get a head start with a new team.

No way Lamaison leaves, he knew the situation coming in. He might surprise with a little time in the system. Stephens maybe, but where does he go and why? Way different situation than BJ. Some people are satisfied to be a back up and get their scholarship. Nick hasn't exactly shown the need to be the man.

Im with ^. No one will leave. NS may end up starting if for some reason we dont take a JUCO and Bray isnt ready. NL could just as easily come and beat out NS. You never know what is going to happen. And if one of em does leave, dont want em here anyways. This is THE University of Tennessee. We want winners, not quitters.

Saying there weren't going to be 3 QB's on the roster this Spring without another JUCO guy wasn't assuming someone bails. If it was, it's totally unfounded. Lamaison knew he didn't have time to push for playing time this fall...he knows his chance is this Spring.

With Stephens, how in the world do any of us know where he's at? We don't. CLK may stick with him the same way he did with Crompton.

Bray, is due to be an early enrollee, as the whole board has known for some time. So, where in the world do you come up with notion that we don't have 3 guys this Spring-Fall?

Totally agree, it is unfounded speculation. Kiffin does not let anyone near his QB's.

In other news, the news here in Killeen, TX just had a story on Cam Newton. Didn't mention any other college other than Flar-duh.


Not sure if it's important, but I thought I'd mention it.

No, something about where he used to play for Flarduh or something. I wasn't paying attention, and caught it REAL late, after they mentioned his name a couple times.

We had no QB to run the scout team or be the emergency QB. Lamaison was brought in to do just that. He will never see the field at UT, unless multiple QBs get injured this year or next.

I think Simms will have to look REALLY BAD this weekend to not be the choice.. even if he looks poor I'm not sure we push for Newton.. we will see.. we will know by pumpkin day

Larry, if we get neither Simms nor Newton, do you think NS starts next season, we go with a Frosh, or is there another Juco in play?

Both QB's are being evaluated this week by our coaches. Chaney to Simms and Reaves to Newton. I hope Newton puts on a show of a lifetime. I don't want anything to do with Simms, I think having him in the locker room will be like Barry Bonds. To much of a distraction.

Newton is not a convicted criminal that got kicked out of UF. I'm so sick of hearing that BS. He left on his own. I'd much rather have him that Simms.

He BOUGHT a stolen laptop and panicked and threw it out the window. A big difference. And he did leave on his own accord. Just saying. I'd bet he's looking for the chance to show he's changed and that he deserves a second chance.
