Only 25 can come in in August. That doesnt count the early enrollees. 6-7 kids that we have now will be here in January due to early graduation. We can still get 10 more recruits.

Newton would bring in past SEC experience and if he plays well enough in camp he could give Kiff the chance to redshirt Bray and get Bray ready for 2011.

I'm hearing Cam Newton to Miss. State rumors from some of my co-workers who are hardcore MSU fans/follow their recruiting.

I think that makes sense. We'll see...

We can only sign 27 and back count 2 of those 27 to stay at the 85 player limit.

I'll correct this here as I have elsewhere. You are right that we can backcount 2 players, but we can still sign 30 total. It's just like any other year where you sign more than 25, 3 would have to be non-qualifiers or gray shirt.

I dont think JC beat out stephens I think the coaches are trying to show that they can make Crompton better then what Fulmer did last year. Somewhat of a project. Crompton's mind is fried he will never be able to handle the field of play again.

My point is that NS, NL, and Bray will be fine next year. We dont need a Vick on our team. Period.

The KID purchased a stolen laptop and you are comparing him to Vick? Wow....I respect your opinion man, but that seems WAAAAY out there. And I highly doubt Kiffin would risk sabotaging his entire first year as a coach by playing someone he knew wasnt better, just to prove he could improve on the previous staff's coaching abilities. If Stephens were truly better, he would be starting, IMO.

I meant as a running QB not a dog killer.

Ah....gotcha. My bad man. Thats what I get for making ASSumptions. Have we really not even shown interest in Newton? I dont get as much info up here as I would if I still lived in TN....but some friends of mine that i graduated with that work at UT said we are still going after the Rees kid that committed to ND.

Are these the stats of a running QB?

Blinn College quarterback Cameron Newton scored six total touchdowns, including five touchdown passes, as the Blinn Buccaneers rolled to a 65-6 victory over the Southeast Prep Spartans Thursday at Spencer Stadium.

Newton got the Buccaneers on the scoreboard on their first possession with an 11-yard touchdown strike to Dexter Ransom. After Hayes’ touchdown run on the Bucs’ next possession, the offense got a bit of a break as Chance Imhoff returned a Southeast Prep punt 70 yards for a touchdown, diving over the pylon to make the score 21-0 Blinn.

Newton added a 4-yard touchdown run with two minutes remaining in the first quarter.

Newton connected with Ransom again early in the second quarter as they hooked up for a 48-yard score. Newton then threw a 16-yard touchdown pass to Hayes and a 23-yard score to Darrin Moore before the halftime break.

Newton would throw one more touchdown pass with 8:37 left in the third quarter when he threw a 7-yard score to Jarvon Searcy.

Newton was 11 of 13 passing with 169 yards and 5 touchdowns.

I say this because I have heard from friends who work for the team that stephens could easily start. But I think the staff has every right to try and rebuild crompton to show progress. The University wont fire this staff for atleast 3-4 years and with the recruits that are coming in this staff is going nowhere fast. people will come and go but not for awhile.

I know he was a DT coming out of HS....maybe that is where the stigma comes from. The film I have seen on him from his UF days (the tiny bit that is actually available) he looked to have an incredibly strong arm, and he has prototype size. If his head is on straight, I think he is without question a SEC-caliber player.

I agree.

Thats cool...I respect your opinion, and your friends assessment. I just find it extremely hard to believe that a staff that is willing to play so many true freshman, would have a problem doing the same (playing the best player, regardless of class) at the most important position on the team. If we win less games this year than last mainly because of QB play, Kiffin will come under some fire and it WILL hurt recruiting.

He has all the tools...Just gotta find the key to the toolbox.

Newton can flat out play.. They are still working on Stephens accuracy and not being PicNick. That is why he isn't starting. The sad thing is if this staff had Crompton from his freshman year he would prob be a big time Qb for us. Nobody on previous staffs worked with him and his mental game. Randy Sanders didn't have a chance due to Crompton's arm surgeries. Cutcliffe ignored him because he was trying to get his next coaching gig via Erik ainge. Clawson was too busy trying to fix entire offense instead of concentrating on Crompton. This is first staff that has concentrated on him but its too late.

Cut may have ignored him but it had nothing to do with his future. Cut thought J Cromp was a lousy QB and uncoachable.
