If we did get Newton and Marve, why would we be worried about getting a 2010 Frosh QB?

They fix the problem. We'd need a 2011 class QB.

Not true. Because Marve would only have 2 seasons left once he sat 09. And so would Newton. There not freshman.

I heard this morning on sports animal that neither Marve or Newton will be able to play next year. It makes sense that Marve has to sit out a year, but the Newton deal does not. They reported that since Newton was on Florida's roster last year he could not play for us next year. If he played JUCO this past year, and was not on Florida's roster then why could he not play this coming year? Someone's time line is screwed up and I don't know which one. If we are planning on two fresh qb's why take two transfers that will have to each sit out next year?

Newton is playing JUCO this coming year.

I think that's not ideal from a depth chart perspective.

If you bring in the 2 JUCO qb's, then in 2012 your most experienced QB is a soph with perhaps little or no game experience. I think Kiffin is smart enough to see ahead to that. While these give you some weapons for 2010 and 2011, I think the staff won't take more than one JUCO and will take a 2010 QB with potential to develop.

He was at Florida for the fall semester last season. He played in the first game of the season versus Hawaii, had some sort of injury and took a RS. He was arrested shortly after that, then transfered at the semester from what I have read. That would mean that he has to sit out.

That will depend on who's available. This staff doesn't just take anybody. Nothing else could be more obvious.

Most do feel they'd take Hendrix, though, as the person to develop. But, if he balked at the scenario presented by two Jucos, that appears to be a gamble they're willing to take.

I do trust our staff. They are the best in the business bar none!

You still want to bring in a four year guy that can redshirt a year and learn the offense and prepare for when he gets his shot.

If we are going to take a guy with potential the there is no question we should take Scroggins. He has a high potential. Heaps is more of a guy that will come in that is almost at his potential now. JMO.

Marve will probably be the only one at that point, if everything works out. The only QB that seems to have a n itchy trigger finger is Heaps, and I don't see him coming here. Everything I have read seems to make all the QB's wanting to commit later in the summer.
That's the timeline I was expecting...mid-summer. Thinking Scroggins would perhaps commit at camp. May still happen that way.
However, with Marve supposedly taking one of the 2 spots (Kiffin said in an interview that they would likely take 2), that throws a monkey wrench into the situation. It's now a "first come, first serve" basis. The other prospects, like Munchie and Hendrix can snag that last spot, leaving us stuck-out on either Scroggins or Heaps. That's why I wish the latter would make up their mind real quick-like.

I honestly think Hendrix is going to pounce on that last spot. He got his official offer last week and seemed ready to pledge right away. Who knows, though...Hendrix could "light it up" this season and prove to be a better prospect than Heaps...but I really like Scroggins. It's fun to watch one of our guys hurt the opponent with their feet when the pocket breaks down.

Uh, that's what Hendrix is for.

That makes sense then why he has to sit out a year, but I don't understand why we take four qb's in one year.
We are likely to take only 2 QB's this class, whether from HS, transfer, JUCO ranks...doesn't matter.
It will probably be Marve (almost confirmed that he's working on the transfer right now), and one HS kid.
Trying to go beyond that is not only largely unprecedented, but highly problematic. One of them is sure to bail, even if we tried. Kiffin and staff are probably courting their most coveted 2011 prospect now.

The whole thing with leveling with BJ makes a lot of sense... more and more every day.

2009 is a rebuilding year in its truest sense. Is Stephens the next to go?

I'm thinking Marve and Newton are better options 2010 and beyond.

It would be a great recruiting point if we went through the season with a greatly improved Crompton. I would call that instant credibility. I honestly think they are trying to fill a hole in the depth chart at qb this year, and go after the kid from North Carolina that will be a junior this fall. I can't remember his name, but he already has 15 or so offers from SEC and ACC teams. I could wait two years to see a kid like that come here. I have not heard of anyone else that has that many offers as a high school sophmore. I do think he is a Florida lean because of something to do with his dad, but I don't remember why.

You know, I don't understand what that means...I hear analysts say that, but how in the world do you quantify those remarks?
Either the kid has the goods or they don't. How in the world do you gauge how much potential one has to develop? You don't, IMHO.
With Scroggins, you're talking about the added dynamic that he can hurt an opponent running with the ball when the play starts to break down. If that's what they are referring to, sure...but why not just say it that way instead of using some dubious analyst jargon?

Scroggins is a pro-style QB, have you seen him run? There is nothing graceful about it.

Just because he is a black QB, doesn't mean he brings that dimension.

Hard to say...really depends if gets any real PT this year and how well he does. If he rides the pine and Marve looks to start ahead of him, he probably would...although, I still think that would be a large roll of the dice for him, with only one year of eligibility to play (2010). He could easily step in when or if Marve gets hurt or should start to stink it up like JC did last year.

I was thinking he might leave this year.

Don't know why he would. Honestly...these QB's are more confident in their abilities than we are. I bet Nick truly believes he's either going to win the starting job in the fall, or that he'll supplant JC at some point.

Good point. I can't argue with him thinking that way.
