'10 IL WR Kyle Prater

Scroggins = Really no pipeline other than his school. Dion Bailey would be nice, but he's not a priority.

Brunetti = Memphis pipeline. Picking him up would really help with turning more heads in Memphis.

Got to disagree, Kool-Aid.

Scroggins will be attending some west coast events after his stop in Knoxville. He could help recruit other players from California. If he verbals to the Vols, it gives this class a name, a face and a national feel to it with a California signal caller as its general.

Dion Bailey just received an offer from Southern Cal. We need depth at the safety spot; injuries will quickly change the secondary from a strong point to a liability. Bailey could get reps in his first year. He is only going to continue to improve.

I also don't think Brunetti is the magical key that unlocks Memphis. I don't think a single player or event will completely flip that situation, unless of course that event is a national championship. Memphis kids are no different than the rest of the nation---frontrunners.

If LSU was still the LSU of my childhood, Maclin would not be a Tiger pledge at the moment. Post-Saban they're a powerhouse. Pre-Saban years they were a joke, I remember those 3-8 seasons and I remember when they had about as much firepower on the field as Kentucky.

I agree wholeheartedly with TJ's statement. While getting either Scroggins or Brunetti would be a definite step in the right direction, getting Scroggins would send shockwaves across the nation. You would not imagine the amount of flack I recieved living in Tuscaloosa and attending The University of Alabama being a Vol fan. According to them, the only recruits we are able to obtain are those that either 1.) saban does not want or 2.)those who only seek immediate playing time.

The thing that kills me about them though is that whenever the conversation arises as to how I became a Vol fan and I ask them what has Bama done in my lifetime, or theirs for that matter, to warrant me being a fan, I get blank stares.

Sorry for it being so long

Coach O is recruiting him, hmmmm, I like our chances....:dance2:

UT wont get Prater, Oklahoma and Illinois are way above everyone else right now and if anyone else is close its USC. He wants to go somewhere with a good QB, likes Okla because Bell is there and they have some decent QB's on roster, likes Illinois because he really like Whitmer, The Qb MVP at the Nike camp up there and they have 3 Solid QB's behind Juice and Likes USC, well because they will never run out of good players to throw him the ball.

Only way i see us having a chance is if he gets on Campus for an unnoficial, and we get into his top 5, but its going to be tough to get a commitment from him. Milton and Fulton look like UT leans, but they could go either way too.

If we got a commit from Scroggins/Hendrix/Brunetti it would change everything though.

Ill say one from Hendrix or Scroggins will, but Brunetti wont make that much of a difference IMO. But Scroggins or Hendrix dont look like they are going to UT.

i'd say about 40% on Scroggins after talking to him and about 50% on Hendrix from what i've heard/read.

Really? I didnt think it was that good.. But you obviously have better resources then I do and have talked to him. Thats good to hear. I thought Hendrix is pretty much a lock to PSU, or OSU..

UT might not get Prater, but the Vols MOST DEFINITELY have a shot. I don't care what the word in Illinois is. That being said I think UT is in 4th or 5th right now with Oklahoma leading and USC in 2nd. I also don't see anyway the Illini keep this guy in state. IMO he is like Heaps- just giving the home state some love, but knowing deep down he isn't gonna go there...

I agree about the QB though. We have to get a big time player. But we are pretty much guaranteed Scroggins or Brunetti, so that won't be an issue in a month or two...

It's still really early. Anything could happen. I feel if we get Scroggins or BB2, we'll be incontention until the end for his services.

We have never historically gotten a lot of prospects from Cali, and I don't think that even with this coaching staff that it will change. In fact, I believe that we will be pulling more and more from Texas, Florida, and Louisiana in the future and California will become less and less of an option except for those truly "Elite" prospects.

As far as CA Safety prospects, I think that the coaches like Riley a lot more than Bailey. I also think that some of the CBs in this class will show to be more of safeties in college as time moves on.

Brunetti will almost undoubtedly help to unlock Memphis for us. His mere "want" to play for us is going to make him a well respected representitive during the season down there, especially being the #1 DT/#7 overall QB in the nation at this point according to Rivals.

LSU is going to ride their NC's for a while, until Miles finally self destructs and the whole thing implodes.

Yea, I'm glad we haven't relied upon Cali to produce our QB's this decade or anything...

The wheels haven't came off yet, but they are definitely beginning to shake...

Clausen was 5 years ago.

Well, Rick Clausen is too and...:blush2: I thought Ainge was from Cali but he is from friggin Oregon...

Your point is taken though. I think since 2002 we've signed 8 or 9 players from Cali and half of them are from the JUCO's out there so that kinda don't count...

off the top pf my head ut has done pretty well in cali
kevin simon
kevin burnette
good clausen qb
bad clausen qb
donte stallworth
onterrio smith
gibril wilson
i know there are more but considering how far away that is that is pretty good.

Arian Foster, Kenny O'neal, Jesse Mahelona, Albert Toeaina, Cody Pope, Deangelo Willingham, Gerald Williams...

anyone think Prater is close to a verbal to the vols? Is he waiting on the see which qb decides to come to Knoxville?

Just read this on ESPN thought it was intresting stuff:

ESPNU 150 Watch List wide receiver Kyle Prater (Hillside, Ill./Proviso West) was seen at times on Saturday talking to ESPNU 150 Watch List quarterback and Illinois commitment Chandler Whitmer (Downers Grove, Ill./South). Whitmer said he would love to see Prater join him in the Fighting Illini's 2010 recruiting class and was making his pitch to the star receiver. Defensive back Corey Cooper (Maywood, Ill./Proviso East), who won the camp MVP award for the defensive backs, has also committed to Illinois though he continues to look at other schools. Cooper and Prater are good friends and hung out together a little on Saturday.

There is talk of moving Prater to quarterback his senior season, or at least to play him at that position at times. The goal is to get the ball in Prater's hands as much as possible and let him make plays. Whether or not he moves to quarterback will not impact his recruiting one bit. He will almost certainly line up out wide at the next level.

I didn't see this on the thread so I thought I would add it
ESPNU 150 Watch List pass-catcher Kyle Prater's top 10 is Illinois, Oklahoma, USC, Alabama, Auburn, Notre Dame, Tennessee, Missouri, Michigan and Miami-FL, ESPN affiliate Web site InsideTheU.com reports.

He said, "Right now I don't have an order. I am evaluating each school and will see the places I want to go. Those are the main ones I am interested in."

As a junior, Prater caught 60 passes for 948 yards (15.8 average) and nine touchdowns.

Some of the schools that did not make his cut include Penn State, Wisconsin, California, Stanford, Vanderbilt, Indiana, Iowa, Michigan State, Northwestern, Minnesota, Purdue and Arizona.
From ESPN's On The Trail

Brunetti will almost undoubtedly help to unlock Memphis for us.

Purely wishful thinking at this point. Even though QB is the face of the team, it will take more than that to change UT in the eyes of the Memphis kids---it will take winning at a high level & championships. Going 8-4 in the SEC with a Memphis QB won't magically unlock Memphis.

Back to Prater, I think Tennessee can surpass a couple schools after his visit. They just need to stay close now, they don't have to be first. He has a long way to go with his decision.

I agree jack. We just need to stay in it. In his top 5 at least. When, and if, we get him for an official visit is when we go for the kill.

BTW this kid was made for Kiffin's O

I mean if you think about it this kid is certainly wanting to be drafted high. Oklahoma has the QB's right now to get that done to make sure he gets a lot of balls. Illinois will have Benn get drafted in the first round, plus he knows Benn came in and played as a true freshman and Illinois plays their freshman, and they are a pass happy offense.

Tennessee just doesnt have the tools either of these schools do at the moment. The QB situation is a mess, The offense is in a transition period, and we dont exactly have a really good track record of playing true freshman wide recievers like Illinois, or Oklahoma does. That being said, yes if Scroggins or Hendrix commits, this all changes and UT could have a chance. I dont think Brunetti would be a huge difference maker in his deicision though.
