10 games in, 10 points of discussion

I slightly disagree. He can and probably should be our #2 option to score, but that doesn’t mean he needs to force shots and play out of control. Rick even said as much in his post-game conference after Louisville. He said Ament had a better game because he let the game flow to him rather than trying to pressure himself into making something happen.

None of our other guards are a threat to drop 20-30 like Ament if he gets hot, and Estrella still isn’t healthy enough to be a #2 scoring option.

It likely won’t happen but I think Ament staying another year under Barnes would help elevate his game and boost his confidence.

He’s got the right build to be an impact player at the next level.

Mentally he needs to be tougher.

Seriously. He is gonna shoot a lot of them. 50% won't cut it. He's leaving a lot of points on the line.
You know he has a fundamentally good stroke. His problem at the line is nothing more than a lack of focus and concentration on EVERY foul shot. It's obvious when he rushes the process. When he decides that every FT should be shot like it is the last one he'll ever shoot, his percentage will slowly drift up. Going through the entire process with every shot in practice will get it done. I am certain he has an extremely high number he is supposed to shoot every day on his time in order to keep getting huge minutes and primary offensive sets.

I’m surprised Barnes hasn’t helped him change form. Maybe too difficult to do in season but it’s really tough to be consistent with his hips and feet turned toward bench the way he does. Ball has no choice but to have some side spin coming off his hand.

It isn't really negative. It's just the reality of things as I see it.

Defense is certainly an issue. The switching isn't as clean as it has been in years past, but I will note that Barnes's defenses have been susceptible to open perimeter looks for years.

Offense is an issue, though. The personnel (or lack of) in the backcourt is just not strong. It is what it is.

I think we can recover, never really said otherwise. But Ament has to grow up fast in order for that to happen. We basically are resigned to him being our second perimeter threat, either shooting or driving to the basket. If he wilts, we don't have a ton of additional bullets to fire that you can rely on. Abrams, Burg, Boswell may catch fire in a single game, but none of them have shown an ability and/or willingness to consistently be a threat. Gillespie can't do it all, but in those losses, we've practically asked him to do it all.

Yes, we've lost to three good teams and Rick Barnes hasn't forgotten how to coach. And yes, we could have won them all. No disagreement from me.
I think Barnes needs to use Ament at the point to pass the ball inside to the bigs then crash the boards. Since he can't hit a shot in traffic or create his own shot , set up plays to get him open 3 pointers. We need to keep him healthy. The kid can pass and shoot, let him.

He is too slow to get back on D if you ran him at the point.
