Georgia Lineman Clark Inks with Vols as 26th Signee

Helped Northside to Class AAAAA Title Game in 2009

Georgia Lineman Clark Inks with Vols as 26th Signee

Defensive lineman Greg Clark of Warner Robins, Ga., signed with Tennessee on Tuesday to became the 26th member of the Vols' 2010 football signing class.

The 6-3, 300-pounder helped Northside High School to a 13-2 record this season and a berth in Georgia's Class AAAAA state championship game. Clark recorded 34 solo tackles, 21 assists and nine tackles for loss as a senior team captain and was named the unit's "Best Defensive Lineman" -- quite an honor on this perennial powerhouse squad.

"He's a really talented kid," Northside defensive line coach Ryan Crawford said. "He's not a fast guy, obviously at 300 pounds, but he's such a strong kid. This is a great opportunity for Greg."

Clark was a three-year starter for Northside and sparked the Eagles to the 2007 state championship. This year was supposed to be a rebuilding season under legendary head coach Conrad Nix, but Clark and Northside's defensive unit allowed more than 300 total yards to just one opponent and held five foes to fewer than 200 total yards.

ESPN Evaluation

Clark is an active player along the defensive line. On film he looks bigger then what he is listed at and will take reps inside and out. He could be a swing type player, but overall may be a better fit inside in the long run. He has a solid get-off, though he needs to be more consistent in his quickness off the ball. Flashes the ability to use his hands to create some separation. He is a kid with a good motor and he is physical, but needs to be more active with his hands. Will display a tendency to turn his shoulder into the blocker and while sometimes he can push his way back or knife through the gap he can also allow himself to be pushed off the line or washed. He is active and runs around and can be a solid tackler. As a pass rusher he will display the ability to get violent with his hands and when he does this he can apply pressure. Not a player that will fly up-field, but when using his hands he can be tough to slow down. Does need to consistently have a plan as he can get caught up with the blocker at times. Clark will need to add some more size, but can be a solid defensive tackle / swing guy.

This guy seems like a prototypical 3-4/3-3-5 DT.

No idea how good he is, but he's a body. No complaints other than it would've been nice to back sign one more guy next year.

Except our base defense is 4-3. I guess Loften's not getting in, but we can only hope.

I'd love to see some video of this man child displaying the aforementioned strength and violence......could be a overachiever with the right mentoring (Smith).

Clark weighs about 300 pounds. Big dude. Has ability but grades were a concern until recently. He's a Lance Thompson recruit, FWIW.

Just made a call re: Clark. Apparently big schools were initially scared off by his grades but he's brought them up and UT had room.

We needed another guy at DT in a bad way...so nice to get him. I hope we can develop him over the next several years.
