The myth that Florida wide receivers are not ready for the NFL is in the process of falling apart.

This was Meyer's first graduating class and UF put three receivers in the draft. Only UNC had as many as Florida. I think NFL GM draft decisions speak pretty loud.

In the next draft, UF will have 3-6 players drafted in the first round. (Oklahoma will be in the same range). I'm not sure we'll catch up to USC very soon, but we're getting closer to them as the most coveted offer in the land.

The one position where we will continue to struggle is the tailback position. The guys like Brown and Trent Richardson who can tote the rock 20x per game are better suited elsewhere.

Harvin will be successful if he can keep healthy in the NFL. He might be a Steve Smith type WR once he starts to run routes like a normal WR. He might be behind the curve since he was put in the spread for so long. I really think that NuKeese is better suiteed to UFs version of the spread than a pro type offense. He seems ideally suited to take on Percy's role.

But I am sure we will figure ways to get the ball into his hand. He will be more prepared than Harvin to go to the next level.

Doesn't look like losing the Brown/Richardson types have hurt UF.

The "myth" will continue until some of Florida's receivers start producing in the NFL. If all three receivers from this draft class bust, then I don't see how that helps out their reputation.

That's because for the last 3 years, the best big short yardage back in the country is also the guy chucking it downfield.

When Tebow leaves, we need that 220 lb. bronco who brings the inside outside threat.

The thing is, no big true running backs will come there. Moody has failed, and you dont really run a true run offense. Although I bet they will some now because Tebow is under center.

The point is that the "reputation" is already there and still we got 3 guys drafted. The NFL GM's are obviously not drafting reputations, they are drafting athletes according to objective criteria. I don't think the Gator's have some funky magic that causes the scouts to over value them.

Not really - Percy Harvin is a heck of an athlete it's scary. You don't pass on that. He sucks at WR though. Hopefully he'll learn. He's fun to watch.

Not necessarily talking about a big bruising back, just a pure RB. It seems like you have a few, but I agree could be a problem when Tebow leaves.

Hey Matt,

I'm not with you on that. Just because a guy doesn't light it up his first year, doesn't mean he's a failure. He stilll went for over 7 yards a carry last year.

We'll see how he does this year before arriving at any hasty conclusions. He did have a very good spring.

What a recruiting pitch:

"Even our guys who suck at WR can get picked in the first round. Imagine what a talented WR like you could do at UF"!

Out of curiousity, I'd like to hear your evaluation of your prized recruit Nuke. What do you think Percy needs to work on to keep up with him in the WR department?

Sucks in comparison to the other 1st rounders taken as a WR. Not overall - he's still better than most at the position. You know better than that.

He's got great athletic ability, but he wasn't even really a wide receiver in college. He is better prepared to be a Brian Westbrook type player initially than a true WR.

I think the obvious things that he will be lacking in are downfield blocking and route running. Also, I doubt his ability to stay healthy at the pro level when he couldn't do it in college. He won't have nearly as much of an athletic advantage to be able to overcome not playing at 100%.

I think this whole conversation is in the context of whether a recruit can use the UF offense to get to the NFL. Very few offensive players under 6' tall get to the NFL in the first round. Percy Harvin is one. The only other one this year was Knowshon Moreno.

Chris Dunkley is under 6'. I think the UF spread model represents a better chance for him to get to the NFL than the pro style model run by USC which UT is about to implement.

What? Several good receivers in the NFL that aren't tall. And they have normal WR skill sets. Doesn't take gimmicks to let someone play to their full potential.

Any recent examples of a sub 6' WR coming of USC and getting drafted highly. That's pretty much the offense that UT will be running.

USC has only signed 1 WR that I see since 2006 thats under 6. He hasn't done anything yet basically, but is expected to get solid playing time next year.

Steve Smith, who currently plays for the Giants, is the last to make it to the NFL.

So 50% of USCs WRs under 6 foot from make it to the NFL

Per Tharinger (who Sab... despises)

Looks like Pahokee(FL) WR Chris Dunkley will be a 3 team race between Alabama, Florida, and Florida State. Thought to be a gator lock, Dunkley really enjoyed his visit to Alabama and has since had glowing things to say about the Tide. While Florida State has always been a long shot, the transfer to Pahokee HS can do nothing but help Jimbo Fisher's efforts w/ the speedy WR. Pahokee is stocked w/ players high on the Seminoles in Richard Ash, Fred Pickett, De'Joshua Johnson, and others. The dark horse in this could be Ohio State if they go hard after the 5'11" elusive target.
