'10 FL DT Calvin Smith

Florida State and Illinois have already received official visits from Smith. Next up will be a trip to Tennessee in a few weeks, followed by an official visit to USC and possibly one to LSU. Southern Cal will be an official visit, the other two may be official or unofficial.

"(Tennessee), they are recruiting me hard," he said. "They are telling me how bad they want me and I have to go up there and see what it's like."

From Rivals...

Wonder where he is with the staff? Like where is he on the board with Whitaker and Thorton, and Mahoney?

Probably right there in the same area as those guys. Plus whoever gets Smith, will probably get Lemonier too...

Smith is a good prospect, but me and a lot of other people in south florida think he will be an better offensive player in college.

"Tennessee has been recruiting me real heavy," Smith said. "Illinois is the other one. Those are my top two. It's mainly down to them. They are the ones that will make it in the end. Florida State has kind of fallen off with me now."

A recent call to clarify where he stood on the recruiting board in Knoxville helped Tennessee jump up the list for Smith. When asked what allowed the Vols to leap frog several other programs on previous lists Smith responded, "They called me about a month ago to tell me that I'm not being recruited as an offensive lineman for them, but as a defensive lineman. They were recruiting me as an offensive lineman before. I didn't like that because I want to play defense in college. They want me for defensive tackle though. They told me they think I'm a hell of a defensive tackle and that's where I should be playing."

"Right now I'd say there's about a 95% chance that Corey (Lemonier) and I play at the same school in college," Smith said.

Per Rivals... This is big time news. The Vols lead for Smith and he hasn't even visited yet. He has already visited Illinois. He also said there is a 95% chance that him and Lemonier will be going to the same school...

So if we got these two... then we wouldn't take Quarles? I figured we'd take Quarles no matter what - guess we'd just drop someone?

Just a matter of time before we're gonna have to start saying no. You hate to turn down a great recruit but if Smith and Lemonier commit to UT, Quarles might have to stick to USCjr.

Well, Broussard is not going to make it in, and Pat Harris is gonna have alot of trouble as well. Quarles is going to have to figure out what he's going to do too. If these 2 wanna commit, you take them...

95% that Smith and Lemonier play at the same school and it's between UT and Illinois...thats a good chance we pull Lemonier...I know there was talk earlier...but has Lemonier set anything up for an OV or any news?

Smith and Lemonier will either be here for the Memphis or the Vandy game. They have already visited Illinois...

Hope he and D Mosley are worth the guys they bring.

Miller and Willis are the truth but I do not like just bringing in number 2 guys.

I would rather have Whittaker and Thornton than Lemonier and this guy.

Kiffin said there are no package deals. If they didn't think Smith was worthy of an offer, he wouldn't have one. It's like when they didn't offer Scroggins' cousin from Memphis to try to get Scroggins to come here.

I am also hesitant to bring in Dyer and Lemonier if it means we have to take Mosley and Calvin Smith. With the numbers crunch we will no doubt encounter, I'm not sure that those two scholarships are worth burning. Perhaps I'm not giving Mosley and C. Smith their due credit but I find it hard to believe Mosley is as desirable as 4 or 5 o-linemen we are very likely/potentially going to get (Chaz Green, J James, Cullen, S Coleman/D Robinson/Stone). Furthermore, I have a hard time believing C Smith is as good or desirable as Quarles, Whittaker, Thorton, or Garrison Smith. You can't tell me we wouldn't be able to land one of those. As good as Lemonier is, we aren't exactly in need of another DE either so why burn the scholly for his teammate if he's not at the top of the board??? I'd rather just press Bruce Irvin again!

I see where you are coming from...especially considering the numbers crunch...but anytime you can take a TE and convert him to an OL...im all for that. It has worked pretty well for us in Douglas....and it has been stated here many times that Kiffin wants athletic OL...I would think you get that with Mosley...

Yeah, and we'll prob do the same w/ Eric McClain (2011 commit). I'm all for that. Douglas has All-American potential but switching from TE to OT doesn't guarantee the same results. That's backward thinking bro. This staff knows what they're doing so I'll take whomever they want but I'm cautious considering the bigtime guys we're after and the 2 package deals in the works. We can't take everyone who wants in on the party...
