Defensive tackle
Hialeah (FL) Hialeah

Ht: 6-foot-4
Wt: 265 lbs
Class: 2010

He's a high school teammate of another 2010 prospect that Tennessee has offered---Corey Lemonier (Rivals 100 DE).

After receiving the verbal offer from Eddie Gran, Smith had this to say about Tennessee---

I'm interested in any schools really to tell you the truth. I don't really know that much about them.

So obviously there's work to do, but Calvin Smith sounds like the name of a Volunteer to me.

Here's an older quote from ESPNU dated 2/19---

"The schools I'm really looking at right now are Florida State, Miami is good, and Tennessee is one of the schools too."

Here's an excerpt from Luke's page---

4. Calvin Smith - DT/OT - 6′4″ 255-pounds - Hialeah: DT’s are tough to find, but with his quickness and strength this kid could grow to be a force in the middle.

The VQ page only shows 4 school offers but it said he had 7. The article was dated 3/23/09. They must be behind updating the offers.

"I am going to wait until the summer and then I am going to narrow it down to a top five and then a final three," Smith said. "No matter what Florida State is going to be in there. I don't have a leader, but Florida State is the team that stands out the most to me right now."

Smith said that Tennessee and Illinois are also likely to make the cut, simply due to their recruiting efforts and constant interest. As for visits, one on the docket for the summer is a trip to Tallahassee.

• It's Florida State, Tennessee and Illinois for Hialeah, Fla., defensive tackle Calvin Smith, with Florida State holding the edge and Illinois looking to make a strong push. Former Hialeah standout Corey Liuget is now a starting sophomore defensive tackle at Illinois, and the Hialeah staff has close ties to the Illini. Smith hopes to get up to Champaign this summer.

Coach O, seriously man, we can only have so many DTs. They way it looks now we will be landing 15-20...

There are many cases where the 3rd string d-lineman becomes an NFL o-lineman. I wouldn't sweat taking so many d-lineman, as someone won't pan out and will switch to offense.

coming to visit this week.

"I'm going to have a top five list by the end of the summer. I don't really have any favorites right now though. I do know that Tennessee, Florida, and Florida State are three that will almost definitely be on that list. I'm not sure on the others yet."

He's coming this weekend, where do we stand with him?

If we are in his top 5 and definitely an Official, we are in good shape. Plus he's coming for an unofficial this weekend on his own dime. Big weekend with him, Prater, Milton, LeMonier?. Sweep the floors and roll out the ORANGE carpet!

Per ESPN, Smith's top 2 are Illinois and New Mexico. Same goes for his teammate Corey Lemonier.

There is nobody who actually thinks they go to either one of those schools. Take that ESPN thing with a barrel of salt...

Pretty sure I posted it in another topic, but I think New Mexico offered that schools entire DL and promised them starting jobs as soon as they stepped on campus.

Gonna visit Tennessee eventually, still likes us. I believe we would have to miss on Whitaker, Uko, Mahoney, and not persuade Quarles to take him IMO.
