'10 CT LB Khairi Fortt

I was watching this recruitment closely, and there are a lot of rumors going around about a fall out with PSU. A PSU insider was saying that what happened with Easley and UF could be happening with Fortt and PSU. The only thing I think that could mean is that they told him to hold up on his commitment to announce it when a rival team got a big commitment, and that ticked Fortt off. Only rumors, but I don't think he is the PSU lean he once was.

Apparently we made the most recent "cut" with Khairi Fortt. I'm not sure exactly what he cut down to, but I know he was already at 5-7 schools, so we may have made his top 3?? Anyone have that info??? Maybe it's top 5, not sure.

When I say most recent, I think it was as of today.

Okay, I think I've got the lowdown....

We squeaked into his top 5 it looks like. Here's his top 5:

Penn State (highest), UGA (high), UNC (med), Souther Cal (med), Tenn (med-low)

He also still has low interest in Michigan but said he'll probably take his 5th official to Tenn since it is closer to some of his relatives?? It sounds like it's between UGA and Penn State though. An official visit could change his mind, especially a gameday environment and the new HD jumbotron along with all the upgrades in Neyland.

Fortt will take official visits to Penn State, Georgia, North Carolina and most likely USC, with his fifth visit going to either Tennessee or Michigan.

Mike Farrell

Likely a PSU-lean at this point.

I'm very surprised he hasnt committed to Penn State yet. I think it is just a matter of time.

Only thing I can think of is opportunity for PT. They are usually pretty deep there. But honestly, Penn State didn't sign but two LB's in '09 and only have one guy committed so far in '10. I think Gerald Hodges who they signed last year (who we offered) is going to be a stud.

But still, he'd only be the 2nd LB commit in 2010's class, so I guess he's just enjoying his recruitment and will probably announce in a couple of months.

“Georgia is definitely up there, way up there for me. It is really them and Penn State and then you could put North Carolina. This is the only official visit I have set up and I plan to commit to someone after this weekend. I will probably think about things for a couple of weeks and then decide in late September.”

Per Scout... I really hope he doesn't go UGA...

down to UGA/PSU. I expect Penn State. UGA's defense is rancid and Penn State has been Linebacker U for the past decade.

Were up there with PSU on linebacker U

only with orange-tinted glasses on.

we've had some great college linebackers and a few have made a name for themselves in the league, but PSU, Ohio State and USC have all really outpaced us over the past several years.

PSU: Paul Posluszny (2005) winner of the Butkus Award
LaVar Arrington (1999) winner

Ohio State has also dominated on the banquet circuit.

James Laurinaitis (2007) winner
Andy Katzenmoyer (1997)
plus they had AJ Hawk

Past Winners

then you have USC who put their entire linebacking corp in the early rounds of the draft last year.

We've had solid players, but in terms of national perception, accolades, and draft selection, we are not currently in the discussion for the moniker of "Linebacker U." In a few years with Monte at the helm, Tennessee will be in the conversation.

So Mike Stratton, Al Wilson, Jack Reynolds, Steve Kiner, and Jerod Mayo constitute LB U?

We've had some good linebackers in our time, but those are about the only guys that have turned their collegiate success into professional success of any substantial kind, and to me that's what would comprise the determining factors of what makes a university a positional "U."

Raynoch Thompson...

We do not need to become a positional U, we need to be an NFL factory that produces more players who are ready to star on Sunday than any other. We need 1999 Vols level talent again.

Janzen Jackson and Darren Myles will turn into the best safety tandem in the SEC and join Berry in the NFL. Riley would be great there with them.

At CB, we do not have many Goodrich type guys, and I think most of the guys we are looking at (Riggs) are not destined for long stud NFL careers like a Woodson or a Champ Bailey.

At LB we get Luc and there is your superstar NFL guy.

At D Line we have had huge success in the league, Reggie White, Leonard Little, Sean Ellis, Albert Haynesworth, John Henderson...

Let's make it happen captain...

At least in my mind, a positional U "is" being an NFL factory. I think we're speaking more in trends anyway. Penn State doesn't have that many more LB's in *history* that have gone on to NFL success than we do, but they are getting some caliber of players at that position in the last decade that aren't even considering us (until recently).

We are making strides, but to say that we're in the same ballpark right now as PSU and OSU for linebackers is a little biased & extreme.

This guy looks like a good prototype for LB. He has good size and speed....what is his ACT or GPA?...:)
