A reliable poster on TOS said that Scroggins called Kiffin and informed him that he will be going to USC. That info was posted here by someone, but it was covered up by page upon page of people saying they still have a feeling that he will be a Vol...

i apologize, i am fairly new to participating in forums, but could someone tell me what TOS means? i can't figure it out :p

and while i'm here....i still have hope with JS (of course i believe every year that we will/can beat FL), but if we don't get him, does kiffin stop since he didn't get who he wanted? or was it false when he said he won't just offer to have a warm body. that being said, if we can get lamaison (which i don't know what's up with him anymore) and newton...and grayson, i would be happy. and why are they talking brunetti if tajh wasn't good enough? just wondering. i still go back to kiffin's comments about only getting the best, who they want, not offering schollys to those he doesn't want. he hasn't wanted brunetti or rettig (too late) or grayson....until now. so, what's the real story. has kiffin gone back on his word, or does he now feel that brunetti or grayson, lamaison or another juco were his number one targets?

I am not a dillusional Vol. I thought Nuke would go to FL, and I thought BB would slide to K-State over us at the last minute. I was there so I have some idea of the buzz in the room. With this kid, JS, I am really suspicious of what CLK has put together here. I really believe that he is going to announce he is all Vol tomorrow. It fits together too well. I think CLK knows that UT's success is built on media coverage, big time announcements, and recruiting momentum stemming from both of those. ESPN needs Tennessee to be big again...it helps them draw the audience they want. And we are officially the Heel (the bad guys) and I love it. They need tension between us and FL, CLK and CUM, SEC vs. Pac 10...and no one has more to gain (Aside from us of course)from Jesse Scroggins going to Tennessee than ESPN. They know. We know. Its about the $ and the drama. He will be wearing orange.

Forget JS' commitment for a moment, and think about his dad's, instead.

JS' family couldn't afford a personal QB trainer which so many now believe to be a prerequisite to receiving a DI offer.

Instead, his dad developed his own rudimentary (though obviously successful) training program which included such things as having him walk on his hands, and placing different colored t-shirts on a fence to simulate receivers. His dad talked about standing out there with him for hours, calling out a color and watching JS throw at the corresponding shirt.

In spite of the distinct disadvantages they faced, JS' dad relentlessly and selflessly devoted thousands of hours - despite never knowing if it would ultimately prove to be successful, or of any benefit whatsoever.

With so much uncertainty in what his effort might bring, one has to wonder how his dad continued to expend those thousands of hours, hanging those shirts on that fence, calling out colors, and shagging balls for him. And not just once mind you, but day after day after day. Long before anyone dreamt about a "4*" ranking, an ESPN announcement at Disneyland, or an 8,000 post thread bearing his son's name from a group of strangers mostly residing a continent away, JS's dad was out there, calling out the colors of shirts hung on a chainlink fence.

The man, acting out of love for his son, wanted to be certain that he gave JS every possible opportunity for the greatest success, to the best of his ability to provide it, however limited or ineffective it may ultimately prove to be. Simply, he did it to be sure that JS was given a shot.

I can't imagine how difficult it would be for his dad to see the fruits of those many hours of labor finally being rewarded.....only to see it take his son some 3,000 miles away in order to realize the very opportunity which you've worked so selflessly to provide. It would suck on many levels, to be sure.

However, do you know what would suck even more? Driving 20 minutes too see those efforts go unrealized, and the opportunity not simply being lost, but unprovided.

Think about it:
Would you feel better knowing that he would be met with both adoring and open arms, though 3,000 miles away -OR - that he would be but one of the many faceless others, but only 20 minutes away?

Were he my son, I'd prefer to see him get the opportunity which I have so diligently striven to provide, amongst those who wanted and needed him, despite the distance that such entailed.

Conversely, the fear of seeing it all go unfulfilled amongst those seemingly ambivalent to either your presence or absence would be the truly hellish nightmare, if you ask me. The fact that it would occur some 20 minutes away would only make it so much the worse to experience.

JS' dad loves him, and wants what is best for him. For those simple reasons alone, I am not sold that he is, "against" JS' committing to Tennessee, nor even that it is inevitable that he signs with USC.

despite what you thought in the nuke and BB situations, there were sources both times that they would sign with us. in the days leading up to NSD, there were knowledgeable posters saying that nuke to UT was a done deal. sources also said that BB would sign with us, and he actually took a second visit to make sure he wanted to come here, something JS talked about doing but never did. everyone is saying USC. if JS commits to UT tomorrow, i think even CLK would be surprised.

Vader, who do you think we get at qb this year. Scroggins looks all but gone. I'm not sure if I like the plan about going juco and a project. I think if Kiff doesn't think they can play then why get a warm body. I honestly think Lemay, Bridgewater, ect. are all studs. I"m not saying they're better or worse than scroggins but they're his level (if not better). I honeslty think we will for sure get our guy next year for many reasons but I'm just curious what you think about it.

People are reading in that statement about being comfortable the wrong way. It's not comfortable to go to college that close to home. He said he felt very comfortable during his visit to UT and uncomfortable with the fact USC offered late. He also has family in Tennessee.

Not Vader, but if we lose out on Scroggins, we'll wait till fall hopefully snag Cam Newton and maybe Hendrix or Rees or someone will open their recruitment back up.

I wasn't sure if he was or not. I said he might be. I'm not over there enough to know. I just saw where I had clicked on his posts before and might assume that since the only other guys I've done that for have been BRAJ/FlVol/..etc

Aaron, I agree that when you look at this angle it is hard to not believe he will be a Vol. If he chooses USC or FL it will just be a little blurb on the bottom line tomorrow. If he chooses TN over FL, and USC it will be played all afternoon and on sportcenter recapping the Coup that Kiffin had pulled.

But if you analyze it from the angle of his parents, finance, location, and dream school it all points to USC:cray:

and tennacious D..... great post and another great way to look at the situation. I love the idea. The big thing is the personality and mindset of his dad. JS seems not to be scared of competition at all. That being said. He may have inherited that trait from his dad. Dads do however, have the gut feelings that they know whats best for their son. He may be to strongly in the belief that his son can win the job which would be great. I know my dad sometimes thinks I could go pro even though college is my main focus now. His dad may be like us except he's wearing a pair of SC glasses that are so thick that may blind them from the reality. Again I'm not saying this to point he's going either way. Just a way to look at it.

I too think that JS is all VOL

I hear what you are saying. And I am not disagreeing with your post. Good points...but there were also some saying other things. Some were saying BB to K-State and the news here in Kansas was saying that...and actually they were a tight 2nd. The problem is that right now there are NO KNOWLEDGEABLE POSTERS SAYING ANYTHING BECAUSE NO ONE KNOWS ANYTHING. That is where we find ourselves. If a Pros and Cons list was being made TN would have many more (not being dillusional here). USC has close to home and that may be the final selling point...I for one am not so sure. If close to home was an issue then the other school besides TN and USC would be a Pac-10 team. And BB had a little more financial support to get there from his family...simple economics. he could actually afford to go to UT and Miami...and I believe LSU before his announcement...but that's apples and oranges. We will see tomorrow...but I am calling Vol.
