thought i read somewhere that espn had allotted some time for his announcement. I would assume he's just waiting for a nation wide presser, which, for a 17 yo, has to be pretty cool

guys i hate to be a downer.... but we signed Lamaison, are going back after Brunetti, and are looking at several other qb's i dont think the coaches are confident with Scroggins

well, i really don't think lamaison will scare off scroggins, anymore than barkley would at usc. and as far as brunetti.....a theory....maybe this has scroggins thinking "crap, my chance to start early at a big school in the sec is slipping away" just a thought.

I mean, why wouldn't he commit with his friend today if they were going to the same school...I know everyone says he is all USC. But this just doesn't add up!!

Ive said it before, but it bears repeating....

LEAVE SCROGGINS ALONE with Myspace, Facebook, Twitter wtf ever.

Leave the recruiting to the professionals, the ones getting paid 6+ figures to deal with the kids and the only ones authorized to contact and recruit them.

I understand the temptation to talk to a recruit, see where they stand...see if you can get a tiny tidbit or a clue where they are leaning. Fight that urge. Please. "But its just one message!". One message from you and the guy next to you and his buddy...and his sister. Multiply that by 1000 and you get the idea. I really hope people can exhibt some self control in contacting these recruits.

It will be so awesome when Jesse picks the UT cap sitting between the SC and UF ones!

Has anyone done an animated interview yet? That would be a nice add for the coming week.

you're so smart....

i agree with you about Bailey. just because it was said his choices are between USC and ND doesn't always mean he will choose one of those places.

Recruiting is a year round process of lies and deceit and a whole lot of BS.

I think he is still truly weighing his options, and the repercussions that will follow when he chooses 1 of the 3. Does he go with USC, one of the top programs in the country but chance his talent with sitting on the bench for at least 1 year and quite possibly 2 or 3. Does He go with Tennessee whose depth chart is ripe for coming in a taking over and leading a team, an unproven team, but with potential. Or does he go to CUM, who is going to change to an almighty pro style next year...lol. Sorry but I don't think Florida stands a chance.

Don't forget on of the best backfields in the country.:eek:k:

Clarification on any of these statements, feel free to email Brad Bertani at bbertani@utk.edu or call the UT Compliance Office.

Following is word for word those areas documented in the Guidebook to NCAA Rules for Alumni, Faculty and Friends of Volunteer Athletics sent to me by UTAD.

Under section “Representatives of Athletic Interests”

A “representative of an institution’s athletics interests” is anyone who is known (or should be known) by a member of the institution’s athletic administration to:

1. Be a member of or have participated in any organization promoting the institution’s intercollegiate athletics program (i.e. booster club).
2. Have made any financial contribution to the institution’s intercollegiate athletics program or to an athletic booster organization.
3. Have provided benefits to enrolled student-athletes
4. Have assisted in the recruitment of prospective student-athletes.
5. Have been involved, in any way, in the promotion of the University’s athletics program.

Under section “Rules Governing Recruiting and Extra Benefits”

1. Only coaches and institutional staff members may be involved in the recruiting process. All “athletics representatives” who are not employees of the University of Tennessee are prohibited from contacting a prospect by telephone, letter or in-person, on or off campus, for the purpose of encouraging participation in athletics at the University of Tennessee
2. It is not permissible for prospects, student-athletes or their relatives and friends to receive any extra benefits or special arrangements. Examples of extra benefits that you cannot provide to these individuals include, but are not limited to:
a. Cash or loans in any amount
b. Cosigning or arranging a loan
c. Providing gifts of any kind (i.e. clothing, airline tickets or holiday cards)
d. Providing special discount for goods and services
e. Use of an automobile
3. As an athletics representative, you may continue friendships that pre-existed prior to an individual becoming a prospective student-athlete and developed outside of athletics. You simply cannot encourage a prospect’s participation in UT athletics or provide benefits to a student-athlete
4. Do not purchase complimentary admissions to UT athletics events from current UT student-athletes.

Under section “Rules Governing Contacts with Prospects”.

Note: A prospect is a person who has started classes for the ninth grade.

1. Do not telephone, write (including chat rooms and e-mails), or make in-person contact (either on or off campus) with a prospect for the purpose of soliciting his participation in the athletics program.
2. Do not become directly or indirectly involved with making arrangements for a prospect, the prospects relatives or friends to receive money or financial aid of any kind.
3. Do not provide transportation to prospects, including transportation to campus to attend athletic events.
4. Do not contact a prospective student-athletes coach, principal or counselor in an attempt to evaluate the prospect, and do not visit the prospect’s educational institution to pick up films or transcripts.
5. DO not provide free or reduced cost tickets to any UT home or away events to prospects, their relatives or friends.
6. DO not pay or offer to pay registration fees for summer sports camps for a prospect.
7. Do feel free to attend high school and community college athletic events that you would usually attend. You simply cannot have any contact with the prospect or relatives of the prospect. Should the parents or a prospect ask you questions, pleae direct their questions to the appropriate coach at UT.

Under section “Consequences of NCAA Violations”

Institutions are required by the NCAA to notify boosters of consequences regarding rules violations. Boosters participation in non-permissible activities outlines by the NCAA could result in any of the following:

1. A prospect being declared ineligible to represent the University of Tennessee.
2. A student-athlete being declared ineligible to compete for the University of Tennessee.
3. An entire team being declared ineligible to compete in SEC or NCAA competition.
4. Disassociation of booster with the institution and the loss of season ticket privileges.

At the bottom of each page, it says “Ask Before You Act”. Most of this is still interpretive language. If you wish clarification, encourage you to ask in the UT Compliance Office.

It is common sense for the Athletic Department to put that out there but the NCAA will never do anything about it. If they did then every major college program in the country would be in trouble.

Go to any prospects Facebook or Myspace page and there are fans from EVERY major college program begging them to go to their favorite school.

Going to Florida would be a lot like USC. They would probably in all likelihood recruit over him in the next 1-2 classes plus who knows how long Meyer will be at UF. As soon as the ND job opens up he is gone.

you might as well leave this one alone. you have no way of preventing this from happening because someone will always do it. i'd save your breath if i were you.

Meyer isn't going anywhere. Finebaum is a moron.

ND is going to have a really good season this year and all will be forgotten.

Saban really screwed people's trust in coaches.

Let's ask Jevan Snead how honest he is.

Despite internet rumors to the contrary, Tennessee quarterback prospect Jesse Scroggins will not announce his decision this evening.

"No, it's not going to (happen today)," Scroggins' high school coach, Thad MacNeal, told the News Sentinel on Thursday afternoon.

MacNeal said that 6-foot-3, 200-pound Scroggins will announce his decision on July 25 from the Elite 11 quarterback camp as previously planned.

MacNeal said Scroggins is still deciding among UT, Southern California and Florida.

An earlier announcement could have spelled trouble for the Vols considering many believe the Trojans have made a strong push recently for the highly rated quarterback from Lakewood (Calif) High School. Had Scroggins' announcement been made today, it could have been paired with that of Scroggins' teammate, receiver Dion Bailey.

Bailey has shown limited interest in UT. Many believe he'll end up committing to Southern Cal. Bailey and Scroggins committing together would have the makings of a USC press conference.

Scroggins sticking by July 25 announce date, coach says GoVolsXtra

Not positive it's the same article but I have a feeling that's what it's about. That's the best I can offer. Sorry if I'm wrong.
