We may have waited too long on Rettig, as we did with Rees, as we did with Brunetti. Time will tell. I do think that there were about 6 QBs the coaches liked better than Rettig FWIW. I don't think they have any confidence in his ability to make the jump to SEC starter. Unfortunately that's what we were looking for in this class and that's what we desperately needed. The roster is absolutely devoid of talent. It's quite disappointing that we are down to a guy we're not even sure is ever going to play at the level we need him to.

Exactly my points

me too...i don't know what to think. i like our chances with at least one of the California guns....there's a chance we snag both these kids but i would think Rettig would have to commit first.

you really think? i had thought pretty good about that happening when we first offered CR. it seems to me at least that hes watching the JS soap to see what happens and then make his decision. personally i cant see how he would fare any better than JS on the depth chart at USC so i would like to think that it makes more sense for both of them to come here but im not foolish enough to try and convince myself that  you think theres any chance of this scenario happening?

do you mean immediatley or down the road, say, Freshman(RS)/Sophomore year? my personal thoughts are that he wont be ready until sophomore/junior year and by then i would assume that we wouldve recruited another top-tier Qb or 2.

i think that CR has potential, but if he cant contribute immediatley i dont see him ever as a starter. by the time he developes his potential i think we would have someone else. but of course, its merely an opinion and not one that really matters or can be backed up with anything substantial.

Yeah if they have the ability to recruit a top QB or two

i do think that chance is still a possibility...check about my post about it in the Rettig thread.

I mean ever.

you never know for sure.

No, but the coaches are in the business of predicting where a guy's potential is and they aren't convinced on Rettig. Scroggins had them more confident. By all accounts, Rettig is not a guy they feel good about his ability to lead this team at a high level.

I would have never thought we would have been in this situation with a QB......tradition, stadium, fans, facilities, SEC....I would come if I was being recruited...But I am not

Give me a break.

im not saying i agree with that. i was merely remarking on sabs comment. however, i dont think he is as good as JS. he has upside, so what, that doesnt mean he will meet it. doesnt mean JS will be as good as we would hope. but the coaches are looking for someone to contribute right away IMO. also, CR was not high on their list and is still behind JS even though if we persued CR half as hard as we have with JS wed probably have a QB by now. i have to agree with sab in that i dont think the coaches expect much out of CR at the moment and are looking for somebody bigger. in the current situation, JS.

Maybe there is a sleeper Peyton Manning out there that we can scoop up and bring the program to elite status

I'm not so sure the coaches really think Jesse is all that great. He just might be the best thing available.

i dont know what to think about Scroggins. alot of different opinions from alot of credible people.... this thread may not reach the post count of the BB thread, but is lacks NOTHING in the suspense department....

they do, however, feel it's better to have him on the team than not have him at all. I see a lot of potential in this kid...he's a 1-2 yr starting quarterback pending any unforeseen situation that will allow him to jump in there earlier....something like a Manning situation.

They are no longer in a situation where they can afford to be picky.

Who knows, maybe he is a Tee Martin and could win a National Championship
