Agreed.. I know Jesse's Kiffin guy and all, but the starting job wont just be handed to him. I think Kiffin has allready shown you ahve to work and earn the job regardless of who you are and your seniority.

LWS has me convinced that Jesse isn't even necessarily Kiffin's guy..the staff likes him, but isn't falling over him. He's number 1, right now. That may not change (and I think that he will remain the/a top target), but this class just doesn't have obvious world-beaters in it.

2 things have gotten my hopes up a little on UT getting Scroggins. 1st is a quote from a recruiting article from USC's Scout site yesterday:

I'm trying not to read too much into those two lines, but it is great to hear some positive news...

The other that got my hopes up somewhat is that Bryant still feels that UT will land Scroggins. I know that he has no way of knowing for sure and is just going by what he is feeling, but he still has heard more than 99% of people on the UT boards so I'm just hoping he's right...

Add to that the fact that he has a chance to start here his first year , I like our chances . He will ride the pine for two or three years at the other schools

Here's the bottom line deal on Scroggins....

1. I think that some of you are setting the bar too high on Scroggins and are probably setting yourselves up for some disappointment down the road.

2. He HAS talent, but that doesn't mean that he's going to start in 2011, which would be his RS Freshman year. We don't know what could happen between now and then, and speculation is fun of course, but it's kind of being unrealistic at this point.

3. There might even be another JUCO that could come in at some point in time between now and then, that's a possibility.

Now, I'm not being critical of the kid, but he's got a lot to prove between now and then he has to get the starting job anywhere he may sign. I think that some of you are being somewhat too definitive on what he may or may not do when he gets to college and are hung up on the fact that he's the #1 guy on our board. Just because he's the #1 guy on our board doesn't mean he's the most talented or coveted. It could mean that he's the guy that has the most connections that could bring us in more talent if he commits. That's one of the reasons the staff was so high on Heaps. Heaps could bring in talent by name alone, and it seems as if Scroggins can as well because he's a higher profile guy on the West Coast.

Anyway it goes, I think that Jesse is a great talent, but I'm not putting my team's well-being in his hands yet because there are just too many unknowns between now and NSD for one, and after that he still has to earn the job.

I agree. The only thing Scroggins will have an immediate effect on is recruiting. If he announces for the Vols it will start a landslide of offense talent committing to UT. Even if he does end up signing on NSD.

Very well put Eric. He's not Peyton!:mf_surrender:

Good lord, PLEASE don't put that on his myspace page...

I'm Tennesse born and bred. I love UT football, but I can't stand that song.....

OK, you can all flame me now as I have commited blasphemy....

It could mean that he's the guy that has the most connections that could bring us in more talent if he commits.

There's nothing this class needs more than this effect, especially for the Olinemen. If he could help us land a few Olinemen beast, that would certainly contribute to our ultimate success whether he proves himself worthy of all our praise or not.

But, if he's not that great, that's even more the reason to commit with UT. He'd have to be at the top of college football to even play at USC and the interest in Florida is just nonsense. If he signs with UF, his NFL career will never materialize.

Both USC and UT give him a decent shot at doing well in the League, asssuming he earns playing time. There is a chance he doesn't start in 2011 at UT. However, there's a similar chance that he starts from 2011-2013 and goes in the first round of the NFL draft in the spring of 2014, if he signs with the Vols.

Whatever his ultimate proven level of talent, UT is the rational can't miss option. Even if Corp and Barkley are better in practice, the extra playing time he could get at UT will improve his game. He needs to play to convince the League that he's good enough.

It should be an interesting week. He should sort this out and announce as soon as possible considering that his announcement helps UT. It does nothing for USC as they already have QB's of his caliber on the roster.

If we don't sign Scroggins on NSD , I wont be overly disappointed . I do however believe if we get him it will cause a domino effect in our recruiting efforts ,landing WR , OL etc. at a higher level then if we don't sign him . I believe this coaching staff will find their guy and we will be fine , but landing one of the high profile QB's is key to our short term success

I have a question, do you really think Jesse Scroggins, a bla... oh sh*t and african american kid from Los Angeles, CA is going to dig on....... Rocky Top???

:eek:lol:

You ^&*%IN HATE ROCKY TOP!!!!!!! YOU HAVE SEVERE PROBLEMS!!!

I'm not a bluegrass fan either, nor are most on here if I had to venture a guess. Doesn't mean we hate Rocky Top. And yes, many many kids come here and love Rocky Top regardless of race or anything else. It's our song.

The version that plays in this thread is pretty bad though. I like the original and the band version. Doesn't help that it plays two different times and you keep having to pause it. You should receive a public whipping for posting annoying things like that in threads.

At least put a respectable version of Rocky Top on his myspace, maybe one performed by our band. Not by some hillbilly singing it in and out of pitch.

Is it really the actual school song or has it just been adopted as such? And yes, the version posted here is really bad. The bands (POSB) is better (no vocals). :)

Public whipping huhhh??? :post-4-1090547912:
