The thing is, this kid enjoys a challenge. You can tell by the way he talks, and heck his myspace even notes it. So you can take that one of two ways.

1) He wanted the challenge of working to achieve a USC offer, and now that he has achieved that, he is intrigued at the idea of battling 2-3 really good QBs at the school that breeds them and eventually leading USC on the field as a starter.

2) He already achieved the only goal involving USC which was to get an offer, but the real challenge he wants to take on is building UT back up to the way it used to be. He wants people to think of him when they reminisce about how UT came up and became the team it once was.

Those are both excellent challenges and I guess we'll just have to wait it out to see which one means more to ole JS.

Well-stated. My guess is:
#1 is in his heart, because he doesn't know the demigod status that comes with #2. That's why I want him to make a rational choice. We lose on the emotional option.

I think it will be emotion but also financial. The father talked about how they had a hard time after flying out to FLA with all of the expenses.

Dad can see his son practice anytime he wants without jumping on a plane and can be at his son's games within a 30 min drive door to game.

Those two things can be huge as well. Now if Jesse lived in Washington, it would be a different story.

(This also explains why USC bought the dad a Lear Jet for the away games....:) jk UTM)

Let's see...watching son ride the bench for 3 years 20 minutes down the road, or watching him tear up SEC defenses as a sophomore on TV...

That's a huge stretch at this point in time. He may have talent, but the kid is yet to prove anything on the next level, and starting for an SEC team is a pretty big accomplishment that he hasn't earned yet.

Agreed.. I know Jesse's Kiffin guy and all, but the starting job wont just be handed to him. I think Kiffin has allready shown you ahve to work and earn the job regardless of who you are and your seniority.

Do you also see this as a possible tug of war match in egos between PC and LK with Jesse being the rope?

If that's a huge stretch then it's an even bigger stretch to say Scroggins won't ride the bench his whole career at USC with the talent they bring in every year.

And who, pray tell, do you think will be starting for this team in 2011? Sure he hasn't earned it yet. The kid hasn't even played his senior year of ball yet. But if he does come here and the coaches do their job, he has a realistic chance of being "the guy" here in 2011. It's not much of a stretch. We aren't going to get a guy in next year's class that's better than Scroggins with a year's head start in learning this offense. You are selling him waay short.

There's absolutely nothing to indicate that that won't be the case.

Am I reading this right? Are you saying there is nothing to indicate he won't have the job handed to him? If so, I'll use your own words as an argument..

If I misunderstood, never mind. :p

B,

Why would you not include Jesse in the "talent they bring in every year?" He walks on water for most of the UT fans... :p

You did. The fact that the job won't be handed to him should be a given. No one on this team will have a job handed to them see Josh McNeil for an example.

No, I think Pete and Layne have a fair amount of mutual respect for each other. I see them recruiting hard against each other, but IMO it will be clean. In fact I think they'll help each other out when they can.

Dude.

Keep that in mind when Troy Niklas of Servite becomes a Senior :hi:

Exactly. Thought I might have gotten what you said wrong. But hey, when I get it wrong, I get it totally wrong don't I?

All I'm saying is I think things we'll be above board. No bashing each other behind their backs to recruits. Things like, "hey Jesse, if you decide to come to USC make the announcement ASAP, so CLK can get his guy."

Basically the opposite of the relationship (or lack thereof) between CLK and CUM..

I don't know, maybe I give people to much credit...

I think that sounds fine and dandy but Jesse is the first time they have gone head to head... PC is a very competitive guy and does not like to lose in anything. You can bet that if he loses his #1 QB prospect and only QB offer to LK, it will be on like donkey kong!

On second thought, how about we give you Jesse and a player to be named in exchange for Coach O and Mrs Kiffin :eek:k:

You can't put a price tag on Layla! (or Coach O) :)

just wanted to let you guys know that my "Forum Title" before Bryce's signing was "BB to UT".. well look at it now.. kid is ALL VOL

2 things have gotten my hopes up a little on UT getting Scroggins. 1st is a quote from a recruiting article from USC's Scout site yesterday:

Jesse Scroggins from Lakewood High has become the quarterback the Trojans covet the most from the 2010 class and earned a scholarship after his performance at the Rising Stars Camp. But a commitment from Scroggins isn’t a given, far from it actually. He has serious interest in Florida and Tennessee after unofficial visits to those schools two weeks ago. Don’t be surprised if Lane Kiffin and the Vols ends up signing Scroggins.

I'm trying not to read too much into those two lines, but it is great to hear some positive news...

The other that got my hopes up somewhat is that Bryant still feels that UT will land Scroggins. I know that he has no way of knowing for sure and is just going by what he is feeling, but he still has heard more than 99% of people on the UT boards so I'm just hoping he's right...
