Vols' fans re: scroggins: don't be surprised if he stays in pac-10.... Reply
i live in long beach about two miles from lakewood, ca., where scroggins plays.....i worked for the newspaper here for years as a sportswriter and know some people around the moore league, where lakewood plays along with famed long beach poly....the league has a lot of good college prospects every year (including several from poly) and scroggins certainly is one of them this year.....
i've asked around about scroggins and i'm told he is nowhere near a lock for tennessee.....i heard that today, tuesday, in fact, from someone who has followed the local sports scene as a profession for 30-plus years.....
i know scroggins has some family ties to tenny, but he also has family ties to cali and he is getting recruited hard by the likes of arzona, arizone state, cal, oregon state, the washington schools, et al.....
i hope you guys aren't putting all your eggs in the scroggins basket, because you may wind up with scrambled eggs despite kiffin's and orgeron's seeming clout on the left coast....how many cali players did orgeron bring to ole miss?.....
it's not easy to pull guys out of cali when pac-10 teams are calling.....my suspicion is that scroggins winds up somewhere like cal or arizona state when all is said and done.....tenny's clout is down a bit, anyway, due to its recent slump.....
also, i find it interesting that neither usc nor ucla, teams in his backyard, have offered scroggins.....i know usc has a lot of young qbs, but carroll doesn't let a stacked position preclude him from going after players he really wants, so help me him going so hard after joe mcknight when he already had something like seven other highly rated running backs in the pipeline.....why is he laying off scroggins?.....
ucla definitely could use a top-flight qb, but they, too, apparently have not offered.....so usc's and ucla's seeming lack of interest in scroggins makes me curious.....
if i were lane kiffin, i'd be shaking the quarterback tree a little harder.....
