Hey Sab, since you are now the official recruiting QB expert, I have a question for
you. :)

No seriously. Apparently our staff see something in Rees and Rettig that they like. Where I am confused is why they are not all over Brett Nottingham. He is rated higher than Rees and Rettig and he seems to be a perfect fit for our system, and has good size. He also did really well at a recent UCLA camp. Maybe the coaches are recruiting him, but I haven't heard much about it.

I did play QB -not in High School, but in all of our neiborhood games. (we played real football full-on tackling) And it's the position I watch the most and I have had an interest in learning things like why the ball does certain things when you release it like this, or if the QB doesn't set his feet when he throws what happens different than when he does. I have been examining the QB position for a long time and I know more about it and what it takes to do it well then any other position on the field.

You don't hear me give my input a lot when we are talking about linemen o or d. That's not my specialty, but I am learning by watching tape and figuring out why one guy is a top prospect while another guy at the same position with a better video is not as highly though-of. I'm still learning, but I'm right more than I am wrong and if I don't know anything about it, I keep my mouth shut. Something Lockdown should do.

It could be a couple of things. They could have contacted Nottingham and he indicated to the coaches that he had no desire to play that far from home. Or the coaches might not like something about him. I watched two of his videos and I will give you my amature evaluation.

QB Brett Nottingham
6'4"
210 lbs

He obviously has the size and frame coveted by a Pro-Style school and has the frame to add on more weight.
He works in a traditional drop-back passing game so that' a plus in some people's eyes, but he needs significant help getting out and settling in to his drops.
He has good escapability in the pocket, but doesn't have breakaway speed typical of a running QB (he isn't going to run away from anybody) and hasn't shown any accuracy throwing on the run.

His arm strength is average, at best. Many wide receivers had to stop routes short, wait, or come back for the ball. He has a slight sidearm delivery, it looks like something the coaches have been working with him on and he hasn't fully grasped it. You can look at that as a plus or minus depending on your philosophy. He's already aware there's a problem and he will continue to work on it. Or you're just going to let him throw that way because he's successful doing it. (Vince Young)

He displays good accuracy in the pocket. I didn't see him put any touch on a ball. Even the short slant throws were lazer beams.

Not a star recruit in any other year but this one and not a star at the next level. Needs way too much work to start in his first two years. Probably will play at a BCS School, but it won't be one from a major conference and he will likely be as a career backup, unfortunately.

Scroggins is very talented and would be a great fit but does Tennessee honestly have a legit shot at landing him?

It in reality it's between UT, Florida, and USC if they offer. He has said he doesn't have a leader, plans to commit sometime later this summer, is camping here from June 15-18 (along with rivals250 safety and teammate Dion Bailey), and has a bunch of family in Tennessee, which really helps us. He wants to play in a pro style offense, and Urban Meyer basically lied to him and said that after Tebow left he'd change to more of a PS offense and he will visit Florida in June also. Thats pretty much the abbreviated summary of his recruitment.

fyp..

Like when UM told J. Sneed that they were recruiting Tebow to play linebacker!!! Coaches, for the most part, are going to tell you what you want to hear. Some are just better at doing it then the others. That being said, I hope we are telling him he will be an All-American...whatever it takes to get him here.

"I just told him to take everything urban said with a grain of salt but thats as far as ima go."

People have to realize that if this guy is still not "media", that we could be in for some violations.

Can a program actually get a violation for the actions of a fan they have no control over whatsoever?

If so that is idiotic, to put it nicely.
