I went to bed about 8pm. Anyways, I still stand behind that he's going to USC. Unfortunately, I can see Jesse as someone that is over-recruited, especially if he goes to any of the schools he is considering. That's my opinion though.

Eric, it's probably a safe bet that he goes to one of the schools he's considering... :)

He's going to USC. Tennessee had a great shot but his father is going to play a much bigger decision in his choice than I think everyone initially suspected and he is firmly in USC's corner and not in any way in Tennessee's.

Sweet...I didn't realize that SDSU was THAT nice!

I have no idea what I was doing...I re-read which school we were talking about and I was like WTH...it's UCSD not SDSU! Guess it took me a while to wake up today! :) I know that UCSD has several strong programs...don't really no much at all about SDSU, but I like the sound of it....
San Diego is a pretty sweet place...like Myrtle Beach SC x 50. Climate conditions are great...the LA area sits in a smog bowl and is extremely dry. As you drive closer to SD, is grows progressively greener. Really nice place. But again, Bray and his HS coach probably realized that he was not likely to get an offer from USC or other major programs. If he were a bit more mobile, that might be different.

Yeah and the sky is falling. He is a Vol. Relax.

If he's a Vol, then it would have already been announced by now. The waiting game doesn't help our offensive recruiting and Kiffin and Co. knows that and would want it as public as possible if it were us. His dad is pro-USC and has been pushing that all the time. He will end up at USC in the end, IMO.

Eric I believe you are correct. But let them have some fun, why rain on their hope parade? In the end we will all find out soon. But yes the logic points to the conclusions you are making. We still don't know though just think something is likely.

PS. IMO Chaney liked Rettig a lot as a prospect we are not getting no one just not the brand name.

Scroggins needs to think long and hard about this one simple question...

Who has the best pecan logs?

And his dad is messing him over, as he puts him at a high risk toride the pine for 3yrs. At UT, he's a High probability to play as a True or RS freshman...and be seen NATIONALLY on CBS and ESPN 4-5 games each year.
Tennessee is aired nationally more so than USC (due to 4-5 big time match ups every year...not so with USC), and will give Jesse FAR more media exposure, especially if he does well.
Trying to gamble on him beating Corp and Barkley for playing time is like trying throw down their life savings on a lotto ticket. That's how stupid a USC commitment would be at this juncture, IMHO.

His dad just wants to be able to watch his son play. I can't fault him for that, nor could I fault Scroggins if he chooses to honor his dad's wishes and stay close to home. I do agree that Tennessee provides a better opportunity.

Getting on TV is a small drop in the bucket on why kids choose where they go.

Exactly. Jesse may have family here, but his dad has been pretty instrumental in his recruitment and will continue to be. I just don't see him coming here with USC at his backdoor.

His Dad's going to get to see his son play alot more when his days are done at USC...playing backyard pickup games, cause his chances of getting to the league with only 1 yr of playing time are about as good as hitting that Lotto #

He got to watch his son growing up, it's time to let the kid go and play where his chances are best at making it to the next level. For Monte's sake, there is more NFL experience on this staff than ANY OTHER in the country. What part of that is too much for dad to digest? If he really wants to be close to his kid, what's to prevent them from moving? They can lease their home out if they don't want to sell their house, and simply rent a townhouse/condo/apt in Knoxville or Nashville (that way they are halfway between his mom's family and him). Where there's a will, there's a way.

If thats the case, I'm sure our boosters would love to buy his dad a plane ticket for every game.

Personally I dont see Scroggins ever starting at USC. He's not going to beat out Corp or Barkley and they will likely recruit "over him" in next year's class and in the classes to come. With that said I still think he is definitely going to end up at USC because of his father.

There's no guarantee that Jesse will ever start at UT either - when faced with no guarantees that it is best for their child, it's hard for parents to send their child almost completely across the country, where they will only see him a few times a year.

The odds may be better here - but it isn't a guarantee, and I would say that dad knows that. It's not easy, so we shouldn't pretend that it is.

Hold on, sir bolds-a-lot. What's stupid about that? If I were a top prospect, you couldn't get me away from UT, no matter how loaded they were. With a program as prestigious and powerhouse..ish..as USC just hanging out in this kid's backyard, I'm glad (and a little surprised) we've hung on this long.

While I think UT makes the most sense for Scroggins, the "he won't get drafted with only 1 year starting" argument isn't a good one. Ainge started parts of all 4 of his seasons at UT and went in the 5th round. Sanchez started 16 games for USC and got picked 5th overall.

I'm out in California, not because I like it out here, but that's where the bulk of the Animation and Visual FX industry is, and the prospects of working in that industry was much, much slimmer than here.
It's the same with Jesse...there's never a guarantee that $100k college education is going to land you a rewarding job in your chosen field. Plenty of sad stories in that regard. But you do it because the law of averages dictate that a degree in the field is either mandatory or nearly so.
Jesse's chances for early playing time in 10x better at UT than USC. No 2 ways about it. So, what do you do as a dad...encourage him to do what YOU want him to do? Or do you stand behind HIS wishes? Sounds like his dad is about to selfishly push him into a collosal mistake
