sorry guys, next time I will get on google earth can calculate the exact distance from his house to the USC football complex. Then i will estimate the speed limit based on the angle of the curves and the number of lanes.
Based on my calculations it is actucally 19.45945 min away, if that red light is green. :wink2:
I would say that the likelihood for immediate playing time is "common-sense", wouldn't you?
An argument can be made that, "immediate playing time" is not all its cracked up to be.
For example, many highly-touted rookie QB's have a chance at, "immediate playing time" upon entering the NFL. That's not always a good thing - and that's why you see so many clubs who now talk about bringing a guy along slowly, and not just throwing him to the wolves in his first formative year in the league. They know that the experience he gains in this first formative year will be little more than getting the bejeezus knocked out of him for 16 straight weeks - and that this could have negative consequences with not only his confidence, but also his development, for years to come.
Some might even interpret this as, "You're the guy who will be first to get his teeth kicked in."
Sound appealing, now?
I agree. I hope he comes here. I also think we need to go ahead and go forward as if he is not coming. What we have here is Jake Heaps, Part II.
There is no objective, common-sense reason for him to come here, over the other finalists. The sooner we accept that, the sooner we can start hyping and wooing the next, "under-the-radar" prospect.
Even if this guy commits to us, it sucks that USC is only a few minutes away and can keep recruiting him. Conversely, there's always a chance something happens to Corp, Barkley comes in and tears it up, and Scroggins decides they've already got their guy for the future.

USC lock.
I dont think it is a bad sign that he took it down. But i also did not think anything of it when he put it up either. Why would his official to the Georgia game still be on if he knows he is going to USC. Honestly i dont think anyone knows but him at this point. The rest is all speculation
Yeah...I'm afraid it's starting to look that way.
It makes me think he did in fact intend on committing here after camp because the coaches and facilities probably blew him away. Hence the picture on his myspace and the way he talked up UT. However, what you have here is a kid who is very indicisive and whoever he see's that he likes LAST is going to get his services. Unfortunately for us, he camped at SC last and not to mention they would've gotten the last word in one way or the other regardless since they're 20 (5 if you're matt :birgits_giggleminutes away from his house.
Well naturally you'd think "recruiting" players.
But you could be right, this could mean nothing. For all we know he could have UT at #1 right now but he doesn't want to give any indication of that so he doesn't recieve a lot of pressure from the locals
I'm messing around with the "USC Lock" thing, because everybody is so quick to jump to conclusions (See: Office Space) about these kids and their decisions.
Anyway, I think he's more of a lean now to USC because, like you said, he was there last. I bet the USC coaches are saying "hey, UT offers the same exact thing that we offer, but we will be competing for national titles right now, where it might take them longer...and we are right at home for you. Don't you want all your friends and family watching you play in your home state??"
It just seems right. No matter how many of those five stars are ahead of them, it seems like he's leaning toward SC. Dangit, I want him to be a Vol so badly, but I think USC is saying that we are very similar programs but SC "has more to offer" (other than PT). Maybe another mind-blowing visit to UTK will change his mind (again!) Hey, where's that chick at that gave us the upper hand with Bryce Brown? Go get her!
Dangit! Another thing to think about is that these kids seem to wear their hearts on their sleeves. The whole myspace photo thing is just him being excited about it. Now he's into SC, so maybe he takes down the UT stuff. All this Twitter and Facebook crap is ridiculous. I wish it weren't there (for these purposes). It is only a way for people to scream for attention. That's all it is!
Who are we recruiting besides jesse and dion that are considering USC?
This is definitely a good point, but I thought we were talking about college football. I think there have been a few quarterbacks in UT history that have had decent true freshman years. There is no way to know how successful he will be, but I'm simply trying to point out that the opportunity is there and with a path of lesser resistance.
See Matt Ryan, 2008 NFL rookie of the year. Pretty much started at QB from day one and brought a Falcons team that was awful the year before to the playoffs. How did he do it? With the help of a great running game; see our depth chart at HB for next year. You get the point. Scroggins has already said starting early is attractive to him and I don't see any reason why now all of the sudden he wants to compete with 5* QBs for the slim chance of starting at USC... All I'm saying is it's not completely unrealistic that he signs with us on July 25th.
