'10 CA QB Chase Rettig

What i think is funny is everybody is an evaluator of qb talent. We got to get this one or that one. He will be #1 or #2 .Why hasen't he commited yet? He going to usc,no he's going to fla,no he 's going on a mission to south africa. He's too tall, no he's to short. He will blow up this year. He pushes the ball, his footwork is horrible. He locks on the reciever. This guy is from tennessee. Dosen't the staff know about this guy?Boyd was our man. it's Kiffin's fault.Just having fun guys ha ha.

Wrong. They absolutely do not. Not if they want to be competitive they don't. They go off the film and their own personal evaluations.

They do so--they decide between guys they got from rivals based on film but they do not dig. I am not saying they do not look at film just if rivals or scout has not done the work for them that is about it most of the time. Now there are special coaches who do more like our guys. But Fulmer styled recruiting is normal. They look at the stars then they gauge interest and take the path of least resistance. It is human nature. Most people are lazy period.

Guys unlike that would be the guys at OU. While at Texas they make Fulmer look like a workaholic.

No. You're wrong. Any coach worth his salt will absolutely not rely at all on Rivals rankings. Those guys are not experts. They operate a "for amusement only" website. They have no training in evaluating football players for the most part. Look at what Ed Orgeron did at Ole Miss. He brought in a lot of guys that he knew could play. Rivals missed on a lot of those guys. They always do. It's fun to watch and keep track of, but coaches do not put stock into what Rivals thinks and neither should you. You're dead wrong on that.

Fulmer was known to base taking one guy over another on stars, at least some say. It pleases the fans and gives them job security, Look at Pitt. It is not as if I ever said anything absolute like they just use rivals or scout they use it as a major part of the process. Sorry if this burst some romanticized bubble of coaches. They are human and lazy like most. They will get away with what they can. The driven are the exception. We happen to be in the SEC so we have the most elite coaches in one conference right now then any conference at any time. It is not this way in every conference.

So sab, what % do you put on scroggins now to come to tennessee. I believe the last one was 65%?

Contrary to what many believe here (cough eric cough), I don't think we're out of it with Scroggins by any means.

You are so wrong. Have you ever seen those ads on these websites looking for football recruits? Companies like this have video of every recruit in the nation and sell them to schools at a premium. Coaches request more footage when they see someone they like. It's produced better and a lot better than Rivals. They don't give a crap about stars. Look at our commits and see how many actually have full length Rivals videos.

As little respect as some of you have for Rettig, we need this commitment to keep our momentum up. This kid has steadily improved his stock this offseason and looks to have a stellar senior year. Losing a recruiting battle to BC is not acceptable.

Did you even read what I said? Dude just calm down listen to some dead take another hit and fade away. Think about what you said when you said our commits and what I said about our staff. Thanks for waisting my time though:hi:

Show me one piece of evidence that Fulmer ever did that. I guarantee you that you cannot. Job security??? If an AD gets wind that we are recruiting guys based on stars on some amateur website, his job is going to be in serious jeopardy. You have it all backwards. That's a quick way to get fired. You are absolutely wrong on this. It's not "lazy" to recruit based on Rivals rankings, it's downright stupid. Rivals doesn't have access to all the information and footage that the coaches do. Why would they go by their rankings over their own evals? Some may, but they won't last long at all doing that. Those websites get it wrong way more than they get it right. Do you know what the biggest factor is in Rivals' star rankings? The prospect's offer sheet. Rivals is influenced by the coaches' opinion not the other way around

Very true. There are many recruiting services who only cater to coaches looking for video on recruits. It's where they get the majority of their film and they get it all -- not just highlights. The good and the bad. Here is one if you want to check it out.

Not to mention the new trend of coaches personally videoing recruits' practices/games on visits that Orgeron and Wilson brought over from Ole Miss.

no matter who we get I fully expect Stephens to be QB next yr and a very good one. I think everyone has forgot about him since he broke his wrist in spring but I think he fits this offense really well.

In a perfect world Rettig and Scroggins would redshirt but that wont happen unless we get 2 Jucos

are nothing more than for the fans to rank kids. As someone who coached for many years I have seen many kids pay good money to go to these types of camps only to have smoke blowed up their rear ends. They tell these kids that they are the shot they they need to get noticed, they are for a few but the vast major just wasting their money on chance. As a former coach, you work more with the recruiters who call to see if you have a good player, if you do you make arrangements for film and it goes fom there. Atleast that has been my experience for 27 1/2 years.

LOL at your edit Sab. That is one heck of an edit. Dude I never said they get film from rivals it is about the stars. It is about fans believing they got a good guy. Coaches play a political game and feel the best players will win anyway. I have said not every coach. I have said not our coaches. If you want to change what I said cuz you want to win an argument or use someone like Grateful Vol,LOL, to further supplement your argument go right ahead. In the end I know you are smart enough to understand what I am saying. Where they get film is irrelevant.

Sab i see that you changed your avatar. Steve's death has hit us all hard . I live here in nashville too.

He did indeed get an offer from the Vols this morning. He has not committed. He is currently having lunch with his family and will call me back in a bit.

and..

Rettig is still at passing league, but we should get him soon.

I did speak with Brunetti to see what was going on there. He said that he does have an official offer letter from the Vols. A letter he received just a few days after he committed to West Virginia on June 15th.

He has not had a verbal conversation with a Tennessee coach since receiving the offer, but he has received several hand written letters from Orgeron and he plans to call Orgeron either this week or next. Brunetti just returned from Hawaii where he competed in a qb competition.

He still says that he is firm to West Virginia but that he is still listening to Tennessee and Mississippi State.
